This isn't new technology or really anything that hasn't been around for some time. Back in the 70's when I was in the Air Force and had a chance to work with some of the output of our military satellites, I had maps that were like this but in infrared. Since I was stationed at Vandenberg AFB I had a infrared map of Santa Barbara and surrounding area that showed detail of houses and buildings and all of the city blocks in map detail. It was really amazing to see the imagery that we were pulling off of satellites that long ago and what is available to the public isn't much better today. I can only imagine what the military grade satellites can do that the common person never sees.

Most of the Calf coast showed up in red. Calf has always like to over spend. :D

The data for my area seems to be fairly old. My housing development is showing no buildings at all, and construction started about six years ago.
