I'll be in PHX (Scottsdale) for a conference next week, arriving the 11th, and departing the afternoon of the 15th. I'm tied up during business hours Wed-Fri, and probably thru dinner hour on Thu. I plan on possibly getting out and doing some shooting, looking at perhaps doing some night landscape. New moon is the 9th, so moonset will be early (10:11 PM on the 14th), giving nice dark skies. Anyone up for a GTG, either for a shoot or just to meet? |

I was thinking of zooming up to Sedona that weekend to shoot Cathedral Rock at night time. I know there are a fair amount of StarGazers Parties that weekend. Are you able to travel about 2 hours north or are you stuck in Phx for business that won't allow you to wander too far. If you are I can come up with a few other places to go. |

I'm thinking that, from a weather perspective, Friday night is looking like the winner. I can certainly travel, I don't have to fly until mid-afternoon Saturday, and I have no commitments after end-of-business Friday. I don't know exactly what time the conference will wrap up, but I suspect it will not run until 5. I should have a timetable later this week.
I was looking at the DarkSiteFinder map for good dark sites with some interesting landscapes. One that popped up was Alamo Lake State Park. I'm certainly open to any/all alternatives, though! |

Well, I am here in PHX... man, it is hot, LOL. Weather is looking good, hopefully I can get out and do some late evening/night shooting. |

I think if you are looking for some gorgeous landscapes and rock formations for the star shooting, Willow Lake AZ is the place to go.
Prescot, not DP though but close |

I escaped the heat, went North to Sedona area. Got up there before sunset, shot red rocks, had dinner, found some really dark skies along 89A :-) |
