I'm going to the SYNC conference in Manheim PA from Sunday through Tuesday. I am arriving and departing from Philadelphia and I rented a car for a week. My return flight is also out of Philadelphia and scheduled for Saturday, June 16th so I have Wednesday through Saturday to explore a little.

I am looking for ideas and suggestions while I explore this part of the country that I have never been too before. I have been north, south, and east of Philadelphia, but I have never been west. Can anybody please suggest routes, itineraries, or ideas of places to drive to in the central and west side of Pennsylvania and/or Ohio? edit to add: or Western New York State.

Thanks!

You'll be 2 hours and 20 minutes from Ricketts Glen State Park. That's a favorite spot for DPC get togethers. For central PA, you might want to touch base with Stiger for suggestions.

Philly has some nice street shooting with City Hall, Rittenhouse Square and South Street having interesting characters and events, Eastern State Penitentiary is someplace I've wanted to go but haven't had the chance.

@yakatme - you'll be in Lancaster County.. Amish country. Go to Lititz, Ephrata, and Intercourse for great Amish life photo ops. Also enjoy some good Dutch-style food while there.

Head south to Lancaster. Beautiful countryside and your likely to see Amish riding in horse driven carts or working their farms. Great food also.

Harrsiburg is not far from Manheim. The Susquehanna River and its seven bridges are lovely....see my port for too many bridge pics. Amish/Mennonite country is all around Manheim. Rural Pennsylvania is just pretty. You aren't far from the Strasburg Railroad if you're at all into old trains. You're also near the Shady Maple Smorgasbord which is kind of an interesting Pennsylvania variety of total gastric excess. PM me if you'd like, I'll be around.....and Manheim's only about an hour from me, if that.

If you end up doing New York at all -- Go to Watkin's Glen and Ithaca. The gorges and waterfalls are spectacular!!
