Okay.....here's the deal. One sentence. Post as often as you like, but this is strictly a community feel-good thread offered up in the hopes of rallying the troops to work towards building the membership. So I figure this can be both fun and encouraging.

I'll go first! 8>)

Why DPC is awesome: I learned how to work a freakin' camera here.

DPC is awesome because I have made some really good friends here.

DPC is awesome because whenever a member needs help, the community is there. Not just talking on-line support either. The lengths this community has gone to help members is just plain uplifting.

The broad range of talent and ideas is exceptional and inspiring.
There is an appreciation for all kinds of imagery and approaches here.

Ditto. And I've had the opportunity to meet up with quite a few both here in the UK, in Germany, in Hong Kong and in several locations in the US. Several people on DPC I "speak" to daily.

Once I got to a place in my life that I had time to spend pursuing a hobby, photography was what spoke to me. I didn't know very much about photography in general (point and shoot was my camera of choice), so I set out to see what the internet could do to educate me. I happened upon DPC and was in awe of the photography I saw and I said to self "I want to do that." That was around 2006 (I think). So, I lurked and studied the photographs, read forums, read tutorials, took pictures, taught myself Photoshop, and in 2010 entered a contest (shoes) and was thrilled to place in the top 20. I was hooked and have never looked back. I am still here and continue to learn something all the time. I have never met anyone face to face, but have enjoyed getting to know some of you as friends and family. There are other sites around, but none like DPC. Even though I do not participate in forum chatter, I do read them everyday just to see what is happening with everyone else in the family. I can feel the depression as the site declines and dread the day I will no longer have DPC to look forward to in the morning as I drink my coffee just as I have for the past 10 years. I hope that day never comes. Thank you .

Sorry, this is more than a sentence, but hey, I was on a roll!

well its the upbeat feeling the help and the cameradie,

Plus the frustrations of another entry going down the SWannie and leaving me with another BROWN.!!
The delight of the entries and the way some portray the challenge their ideas can be wild and wonderful,

I had the pleasure of meeting 3D Archer a while ago in Auckland, he like me must be the only kiwis still plugging away at the challenges !!!!

Well... I totally agree with everyone else's statements.

Except NikonJeb's.

But, I'd do that... if necessary! Ha!

I love this bar...

I think that's prolly the only time I ever kicked your @$$ in a challenge! LOL!!!

Ribbon hog!

Just another reason I love this place. Seeing/hearing how DPC has changed their lives.

DPC is awesome because it provides a forum for me to improve my photography and editing skills. The feedback is great but I also push myself to try harder as I see the submissions of the talented folks around me.

If it wasn't for DPC, I probably would never have even owned a DSLR and all the photography equipment I've spent a lot of money on over the years. I would likely never have gone beyond family snapshots. I wouldn't have spent thousands and thousands of hours over 13 years toiling away on photoshop, in the forums, online photo gear sales and reviews, etc. I think it is safe to say that were it not for DPC, my energy would have been focused on work, my real life business would be thriving, I'd have a bunch more money in the bank and would probably have the house paid off by now.

Oh yeaaah, DPC is awesome. Awesome like heroin.

what he said, pretty much. wouldn't be rich, but the house might be clean, and more spacious (less files).

Haha! What she said!

But it's awesome to have an excuse.

This was supposed to be a happy thread.

DPC is awesome because there is no LIKE button and none of the associated over the top sugary fluff that goes with it. DPC is REAL.

DPC is awesome because it gets me to go out and shoot.

What she said. When I go out shooting I have the current challenges at least in the back of my mind, if not at the forefront.

And I've met some truly awesome people through DPC, who don't think it's weird at all to take 20+ photos of the same flower to get just the right angle for the light LOL. Plus, of course, I've learned to really study my images to find the processing errors before anyone else sees them. Not that that translates into high scores all the time, but I have a much better idea when I've gotten a really good image of an interesting subject and processed it well. Or when I've gotten an image that has niche appeal, where I'm happy if just one other person sees what I saw. Or when I've taken an image that probably only appeals to me, but I love it anyway. DPC has made me ... think more about the images I present to the world. I can have people drooling over an image on FB, only to have people on DPC find the technical or subject aspect I should have paid more attention to. And I learn from that. I like learning.
