Sorry for the long post... Lol.

So as some of you may remember, way back when me and my girlfriend (at the time just a friend) booked a mini vacation to New Orleans for this past weekend. (Link to the forum post)

Well, we booked it through Spirit... And if anyone knows how Spirit is, then you know where this may be headed. We arrived at the airport only to find out that the flight was cancelled last minute. When we went to the desk to see what happened at to get our flight money back they informed us that we had 2 options, either get our money back and stay in Florida or transfer our tickets to one of 4 places that Spirit is flying out to that night...

So, being young and adventurous we decided to book the next flight to Chicago! We spent the weekend in Chicago and we couldn't have had more fun! It was absolutely fantastic... UNTIL....

Sunday night (our flight home) we were at the airport where we went through security. I take off my coat and place it in a basket along with my camera and iPad... My bag next to it and my girlfriends stuff next to that. Through the scanner we went with a large line of people behind us who seemed very eager to get through security. So much so that they kept pushing their stuff down the table. I get to our stuff at the table and grab my shoes and bag first. The people behind me (the ones in a rush) decided it would be a great idea to just continue shoving their stuff down the table to the end promptly pushing the bucket that held my camera and jacket right off the table... Camera hit the floor and broke the top screen and put a small crack in the body.

Needless to say, my amazing trip turned REALLY sour REALLY quick... Before I could even comprehend what happened the people vanished into the crowd as they went to their flight gate. I had no clue what they even looked like so I couldn't even confront them if I wanted to.

But, with that said... I decided that being a responsible adult wasn't going to be this time and I applied for a new credit card with a 0% interest for the first year so that I could purchase my new D850. My card comes in the mail in 3 days. :) Lol.

So long story short, adventure to Chicago was absolutely amazing until my camera fell! But the good news out of that, I get my new camera. :)

I like your roll with the punches attitude and that you enjoyed Chicago. Hope things work out well with the new camera.

Ugh. Sorry to hear about your camera, but glad you're turning it into an opportunity to upgrade. You might be able to still get some decent $$ for the broken camera on ebay. I've sold a broken lens for a surprising $300, which I used to buy another used one (same one) for $450.

Speaking of travel nightmares, I'll add my stepdaughter's in here. She had planned a trip to New Zealand for about six months with two friends. They flew out of Canada a couple weeks ago and had a layover in Sydney. One of her friends thought it would be a good idea to bring seven grams of weed with him, not telling the others about it. Australian customs weren't impressed. Six hours of detainment, questioning, strip searching of all three. They also swabbed their bags for other substances and claimed* to have found traces of cocaine and heroin on my stepdaughter's backpack (which she borrowed for the trip). Ultimately they sent the weed man back to the U.S. and let my stepdaughter and the other one go on to NZ. The guy who was deported was the one who made all the car rental and AirBnB reservations, so they had to scramble to still make a decent trip out of it, which they did. She told me he that her friend said he traveled all the time with pot - but she told him "yeah, but not outside the US!"

Obviously some people have never watched Locked Up Abroad.

*I could be wrong, but I think they were bluffing about the other substances they claimed to have found traces of to get her to confess to something.

Bad Luck. Still, enjoy the D850... if it's built anything like the D800 that I owned it would take a fall to the floor in it's stride so you are future proofed there! :)

They are lucky it was Australia and not Indonesia else he’d be going home in a bag after a very long , expensive and public trial.

Wouldn't surprise me. Regardless, glad it all worked out for them. And good riddance to the idiot who thought it was a good idea to bring weed... -_-

Also, for the selling of my old camera. I thought I would do this when I get back from Iceland. I'm too attached to us currently, even if it's broken. Lol.

Sorry to hear of the mishap. Was your camera insured? Our home contents policy covers $2000 worth of stuff we take out of the house.

Umm...

You must have had a magic body, 'cause my D810 sustained some pretty bad damage from a light hit while it was still in my hand. (I fell)
