LA Times story on the current Ventura fire

Scroll down a few paragraphs and find the "Photo Gallery", click on it, and scroll through 30-odd EXCELLENT photos of the toll the Ventura wildfire is exacting on the residents and their properties.

I looked through the gallery last evening, and, just, *wow*. What an incredible series. Terrible destruction.

Bel Air is being incinerated. The insurance companies are going to lose their shirt on these fires.

No kidding! I just resubscribed to LA Times online so I could stay on top of this incredible stuff. SO many people I know/knew are being impacted...

gut wrenching. nauseating. leaves me feeling so, so fortunate, yet empty.

i cannot begin to imagine living in california without having
* a fire suit
* a full tank of gas at all times
* crates for all my pets
* for everyone in the house, a packed get-the-hell-out-of-here bag
* water and water filter
* food for day or so
* everything dear that can be possibly digitized both digitized and backed up to the cloud

and if i lived in a house, i would have as many rain barrels as possible.

and i'd keep my most critical gear ready to roll...

This is just insane. People always say living in FL is crazy because of the hurricanes... I'd face a hurricane in FL over fires in Cali...

I know this may come across as terrible and I don't mean it in a bad way in the slightest... But the only reason I like the fires going on is the CRAZY photographs that come out of it. It's absolutely insane!

Alligators! Pythons! 100% humidity! Narcotrafficantes! And yes, hurricanes! What's NOT to love about Florida?

Up close and personal look at the wildfires in Southern CA. The power of nature and man's footprint conveyed by photography. Thanks for posting.

Fires are spreading. More stunning images here.

Click the "Photo Library" a few paragraphs down. Astonishing work. The burning palm trees shot is downright apocalyptic, as if it were the Devil's Xmas Lights or something. All this is now quite close to where I used to live, and it hits home :-(

Someone asked me if I was going to go out and photograph the fires - I said no. Not only do I not want to be in the way but there are already people out there doing phenomenal work - that first link has some amazing photographs.

I love SoCal. I'm so sorry for all the loss especially right here at Christmas. This is a real tragedy. I just pray the winds die down and they are able to get it under control.
