Hi,

Just hoping that someone can enlighten me... From the October Free Study there is already about 10 images removed from the challenge. I presume this is from the user removing the photo themselves since they weren't disqualified.

What's the rationale behind this? I was going to look through all the entries again but was surprised that close to 10% have already vanished less than 24 hours after the challenge ending.

Cheers,

Mark

They are actually not removed but if you looked at the score and ranking of image right above that you will find that there was tie and hence they both got same rank and next rank got "image removed" image placed in there.

Thanks - I hadn't noticed that. So a quirk of how ties are displayed.

Yes, it is very quirky :-)

i already know the response to this, but just a teeny tiny tweak and it could say 'image removed due to tie score'

Good idea. Or even:

No image at this position due to tie score

Or even better:

Sorry, I'm bad at counting, so I moved every single image over by one. Keep going and you'll find the next image.

Here's the problem: if you do that, you'll get this message when the image has actually been removed.

I propose: "Ignore this notification."

DQ'd images are not listed as removed. As far as I know, the only photos that fall into this category are very rare instances where the photo can no longer be displayed (say, for legal reasons), but we need to maintain the challenge positions. I believe those are handled manually, so Langdon could put in a custom message when needed. This question pops up often enough that it would make sense to have something like "Place holder for tie score above" as the default automated message.

i bet you it is pretty much the same effort to just fix the problem and not show a placeholder at all.
