Couldn't help myself... Encouraged by my wife I'm now (about an hour ago) the proud owner of the Nikon D70!

Waiting for the battery to charge, could only stretch the dollars to the 18-70 Kit plus 1gb Ultra II card.

So advise would be greatly appreciated on the extra goodies to get for it.

I guess I should expect my first ribbon in a week or 2...Ok maybe 3 ;-)

Change your camera in your profile :-D

Welcome aboard. Great choice on camera!

Extras?... A nice zoom lens! Be prepared to pay for it if you want VR or fast glass. I highly recommend the 70-200 f/2.8 VR

A good tripod if you don't already have one. Also, the 50mm 1.8 lens is a good quality lens for cheap.

lol... Done...
But the photos in the next menbers, open & free will still be with the Fuji S7000..

I only want to get Fast glass, I'd rather wait a little bit if I can't afford to buy the good stuff!

Thanks for the tip..

Good choice, I made the same choice last week. It is a fantastic camera.
I went to the ice skating of my kids again yesterday (after I had the wrong focus method the first time ....) and was again surprised about the speed. If you see a good action in the viewfinder, just press the shutter and you got the image, it is just so fast.

Recommended extra goodies ? A SB600 flash unit for sure.

Have fun,

Willem

I'd recommend an extra battery. The battery life is actually really good, but there's nothing more frustrating than not getting the shot over something like a dead battery.

As Bobs wife I don't think he needs anymore encouragement to spend money. Please recommend that he does not need any extras as he has just used up all his birthday and christmas presents for the next ten years. The plus to him buying the D70 is that now I don't have to share a camera with him.

Welcome to the club.. I can say that now, 'cause I bought one yesterday too.

I bought mine while my wife is on an overnight trip to Ohio (she doesn't know yet). I couldn't help myself. Normally I would never go to a camera shop without her, as she keeps me from buying anyth
.. erh everything. But as she is currently visiting the Longaberger factory, she was not available to go with me.

She is very understanding though, and I'm sure she will not be too upset. I love you Punkin.

I also bought the 105mm macro lens/lense, a flash unit, a tamarack bag, and a few filters. (I really love you Punkin.)

Boy are you in the shit with my wife! She has seen this! rotflmao.

1, 2, 3, 4 sound good.

Carry case came free in the deal. Lowpro TX500 she took that for the S7000 because I don't have any extra lens yet. :(Gone!

2 sb 600 Wow yeah badasser...

Lighting well I think the desk lamp and open windows will have to do for a while.

8) Is it any good? Don't know it.

9 and 10. Got em already!

Thanks for the tips... now where was the phone number for camera house again.

Congrats.

You mention that you want fast glass. Please give serious consideration to the Nikkor 17-35 f/2.8

This is one major piece of photographic excellance. Fast became my favorite lens. Add a sf 50 f/1.8 or f/1.4 and a a reasonably fast tele and your off to the races.

Best of luck to you and your new gear.

Still need #1 and 1-#6 oh and a 4G CF Ultra card, and a USP 2 card reader. Got the rest covered.

Congrats. I'd suggest looking at the 70-300 ED to get you into the telephoto range. It's about $350 new, and between $250-$300 used. It's a solid mid-range lens to get you going.

That lens is good enough that it holds value when you decide to trade it in.

Have it on order. It has a $50 rebate right now too.

Nikon View and Nikon Capture can both be downloaded from the Nikon site.
Nikon View is free, Nikon Capture is a 30 day trial, after which it costs 100 USD to continue.

Nikon view offers exposure and whitebalance adjustment on RAW format, Nikon Capture allows you to tweak it much more. It is extremely heavy on PC resources. I have only been using it for 2 days, but I think I will continue with Nikon View and Photoshop, not Nikon capture.

Is there a plugin for PS CS for Nikon RAW images?

Well spydr, was nice knowing you, but I think you'd better find a nice dark place to hide for a few days...weeks!

If your wife decides to murder you, don't forget to photograph it, at least she can sell the exclusive to the papers! In fact, why not just emigrate while you still can!

Man you are so dead meat! You bought the camera, lens, bag, flash and ordered another lens all while your wife is on an overnight trip!

I recommend a challenge. Gore! Cause your gone.. :)

Nikon View (it consists of a browser, viewer and editor) does the job with Photoshop 6, I assume also with CS.
If you try to open a RAW image in Photoshop it gives you the opportunity to adjust exposure and white balance before loading it.

The alternative is to open the image with either View or Capture, make the adjustments and then send it to Photoshop.

This is a fantastic lens. I have the 70-200 VR and the 24-120 VR but the 105 is my favorite!

Look out Jacko.
