Caveat: Yes I know there are threads on this, but I want an October 2004 thread on it. :)
How many clicks on your cam? In how long?
I just hit 20,600 on my DRebel in four and a half months!!
As Setz (Gordon?) said once to me "now if you were better, Mav, you wouldn't have to take so many."
:)

I hope you carry a backup body... you're not far from needing a shutter replacement.

You mean you shoot weddings and you don't ALREADY carry a backup body?
Dude, you need to resolve that, like NOW, or risk some VERY unhappy clients.

If you set the date on your camera the Image number will tell you. ex: IMG0107.JPG would be the cameras 107th picture. |

I thought that was a lot... when my camera goes up to the 1,000 mark, it does this:
P1000996
P1000997
P1000998
P1000999
P1010001
P1010002
so, my shooting total is more like 6,500.
Seems a bit more believable! |

:) Sounds much better. Your shutter would have micro-rattled your camera to teensy bits by 60,000! I doubt any shutter could ever survive that long.
My SD9 is coming up on 10,000 and I hope to make it beyond 20,000 before I run into shutter trouble.

so how long can a body last? Like a 300D? I'm a bit worried, I have not had alot of time to take pictures and I'm upto 2.500, I got my camera like 1-2 months ago :/ I think when I get into gear I can atleast double that, is there anything I can do to take better care of it to make it last longer? wow I had actually never thought of that *blush*! |

Probably during the 7 minutes you forgot to calculate! ;0)
It's about one every 10 minutes...average of 150 photos each and every day!
I'm guessing mavrik doesn't have a wife or kids or job and gets his nourishment from an I.V. hooked into his camera bag!

OOPS! I figured it for only 45 days or 1 1/2 months. But I did allow for charging the battery. Ha Ha. |

LOL!
Mavrik has a fiancee, FOUR kids, and 2 jobs. He also has a fiancee who got an "engagement Canon 10D" today. :) And I average 150 a day - not bad when you consider the 3 weddings I did was about 3000 of those pics in 3 days. That means the other 4 months or so, I "only" took 17000. :)

I've had my D60 for about 2.5 years now and the shutter assembly just started failing on me (no flash sync) so I had it replaced for about CAD 350 (about USD 270).
If you're buying any used digicam, assume you'll have to replace the shutter assembly almost immediately (unless there's a tried and true method of getting a shutter count).
I probably won't replace the camera until Canon finally recovers from its A-DEP brainfart and I can convince my financial advisor that spending a billion dollars on a new piece of electronics somehow makes the world a better place. |
