why no battery grip can somone explain that to me

Because if you had that plus a metal body, it becomes one in the pro range. D70 is supposed to be a prosumer camera.

Well, I don't think anyone who has touched a D70 would really think about getting a Rebel.

hsteg is right.. If you want a battery grip, or some other cute gizmo, get a Cannon... If you want a kick ars camera buy Nikon.

What kind of shooting are you doing that would require larger battery capacity? If you are constantly shooting high output flash shots for hours a day (like with a SB800), then perhaps another camera body would be more appropriate for your work. The standard battery life of the D70 is exceptional. However, your shooting requirements may be much more demanding than mine. I do keep a fully charged spare....just in case.

I shot over 1000 photos over two days on one battery.. Who needs a battery grip.

did anyone get this yet, and how do they like it? I see what you are saying about the vertical shutter button.

I used to work in a camera store and I called past the other day and ran into one of my accessory reps! He actually showed me a 3rd party battery grip for the D70! So, there are non genuine ones available! Buggered if I can remember the brand though!

Yeah, there are some out there. I think check steves-digicams.com -- look at the d70 review, I think he lists one there.

If I remember correctly, the upper level D100 offers it, but I think since D50/70 are suppose to be entry level dSLR's they don't offer them to differentiate them from the D100. I think it's Nikons marketing strategy.
Harbor electronics and Hoodsman make third market grips but they require wires and use the IR sensor or the remote shutter release plug. Hence, no half sutter press to focus and recompose your shots.

Just a correction on the manufacture. It's "Harbortronics" :)

I agree with the man who asked what you would need the extra battery power for. One battery in and another for standby is more than enough unless you are using the flash on the camera body quite a bit....other than that I think I would consider the extra weight redundant
