Being a devout Marxist (Groucho, not the other one), and as I have been honoured by  sfalice I would normally now have to leave this club, but fortunately Don has given the caveat that allows me to stay,
"These are not necessarily the "best" or even the "most artistic" images. These are the images that got words out of us. "
Many thanks to all those involved. I know experiences like these add more flavour to the mixture that I put together when creating an image. |

Thank you to the judges for the very many inspiring comments. Like Nam I am inspired indeed to have had posthumous comment about photography in general being a subtractive medium.
This has definitely got me thinking and until now not something I had ever really considered. Its true.. its what we leave out of the shot that predetermines the power of the shot.. thank you so much for making me think differently and apprecaite even more the power of the medium we choose to use as our canvas.
Love the way we this community lives up to its name.. its a challenge and its a great place to be inspired and to learn. thank you to all. |

 made the top 10 and was chosen by the jury but I understand your point.
Like Don said the jury's picks were the photographs that inspired writing. Maybe they left enough room for the curious to explore? For me, some images say it all and all I can do is listen. Others, ones that hold my attention longer, let me in to make the experience my own. This is the dance between showing to much or not enough. Purely judging on technical merits you'll never see the magic. |

interesting question, indeed. As a juror, I can say I selected the images to write about
from my top choices
where I had voted either an 8 or a 9. So, in my book these were the images I thought 'won'
the Challenge.
I thought they were fine examples of Art.
Obviously, others thought differently.
We are such a diverse group! That's what makes DPC fascinating and fun. |

My method was Alice's. My choices - yes plural, though I only had the energy to write one, were the ones I scored highest, the ones that moved me. No quarrel necessarily with the popular choices, but "oh that's nice" or "that's really very good" isn't quite enough. It is a lifelong task, says this old bird, to distinguish between the two.

| I viewed the images no less than three times before even coming close to the ones I would be considering as finalists. And then I viewed them a few times more and still had not yet cast a vote. I think, for me at least, it may be that a lot more time was spent with the images so there was more time for an image to have an impact or inspiration. In the last two days of voting I had eight images I was cycling through and really having a tough time. It came down to really what inspired the most and deepest thoughts. Two of my other images finished higher than the one I ultimately picked. |

This particular jury's choices were based on individual preference, no discussion, no consensus. DPC scoring is based on averaging every single vote. The two processes could not be more different.

It's kind of like if you picked, at random, 4 or 5 different people that contribute (posted their pics) to the 'Top Challenge picks that failed to make the Top 10' thread. That would be the results of a 'Jury' rather than the masses. Results would rarely be close to the having the same conclusion. |
