I stumbled upon this 2015 challenge
2015 DPCchallenge
and I was surprised by the quality of both photos and comments

Heck, I loved revisiting my own strange entry and the comments it evoked!

At 40th place! LOL!!!

I was SO proud of getting the Brown Ribbon in that challenge :-)

ubique in tenebras cordis (or, 'everywhere the darkness of the heart')

That was a great challenge.

I loved that challenge, too and I also loved the latest Hidden Gems. There were so many fabulous and unique photos and the comments are still coming.
Johanna is so right when she says that you get out of this site what you are willing to put back into it. We all want comments but we are unwilling to make them.
We all want votes, blah blah blah

There were 107 submissions and on average 63 votes. That means that 44 people decided not to vote or comment. Things would be very different if each one of us
decided that submitting something requires that we give back. It seems so simple .We've developed bad habits that we need to work on, or maybe just move on.

Lastly, trolls are always going to get pleasure from throwing 1's, 2's and 3's at anything that is in front of them. Eventually their 'average vote cast' will out them.
Taking it personally is self defeating. The only way to counter the dark side is to compensate and go higher.

Hidden Gems was a reminder of how much fun this can be, or not.

I didn't enter that challenge. It escaped me. I usually comment on challenges... I couldn't even comment on many of the entries.

I just didn't (and still don't) understand his style.

I like many of his images, actually.

But, to be fair... he's only given us 111 entries in over twelve years... so...

I even searched his comments given... before entering... to get a feel for what he is about.
So...

I'm left... even now... at a loss.

I still don't understand how to emulate him.

He does have quite a few images that I admire.

Seems longer but it's hard to believe that challenge was only about 18 months ago.
