Well, yet another eyecup went walkies sometime yesterday, cause I can't find any sign of it anywhere else! That makes that at least eyecup #3, if not #4, for the D7100.

Luckily I have 4 more at home, cause I ordered them online for about $1.50 each :-) Mind they took about a month to get here on the slow boat from China, but better than forking over $8.99 or so at Henry's for exactly the same thing.

Anyone found a tried and true solution to solve this common and annoying problem? I've read on other sites about using gaffer's tape or tiny dots of superglue to make it as permanent as possible.

I didn't realize you had a glass eye, and a cup to soak it in overnight :-) (Runs for shelter)

But, on the actual topic, that's interesting because in all my years of photography I have NEVER lost an eyecup... I wonder if it's a Nikon thing? Although I used the Nikon F series as a pro (film cameras) and never had a problem.

Hmm maybe back in your day eyecups were made of cast iron, Bear? *ducking* ;-) I don't think it's just a Nikon thing, let's see what the Canoneers have to say.

I lost the thin piece of plastic covering the EVF screen, but the rubber shield has stayed in place.

Nikon eyecups slide down into a groove around the top and sides of the viewfinder, right? Try putting a TINY dab of silicon sealant in the two upper corners of the groove then immediately slide the cup down and "seal" it. That should give you a more secure attachment that's nevertheless easily severable if you need to remove the eyecup for whatever reason.

What I lose is hoods. Lots of them. Never an eyecup, though. Not sure I even knew they could come off. Sorry, Snaffles.

I've never lost an eye cup on any camera.

I've never lost an eye cup. However, I have lost lens caps galore. It's mostly because the lens caps slip from my fingers and go down into the rock abyss or over the cliff or into deep water. They become inaccessible and too dangerous to retrieve. And, I have lost double bubble levels over the years. But, that is now a moot point because the new camera has fantastic built in levels, eliminating the need for a hot shoe accessory.

Nope, never lost an eye cup on my Nikon. I "misplace" lens caps all the time (usually find them in my coat pockets) but haven't lost one of those either. Lucky I guess!

I lost a wife to desertion many years ago but the replacement has stayed around quite well.

lens caps! haven't yet lost hoods, but they tend to drop off at inconvenient moments AND arouse my animosity and vocabulary.

Susan, I'll keep an eye out for your eyecup... t

Yes, they do have grooves, so that's where I was planning on putting glue or as you've suggested (and I think Red mentioned it too).

I have seen the *permanent* eyecup, the large silicone teardrop-shaped thingy, so may just get one of those. I often don't even notice that I've lost the eyecup til I look at the camera and realize it's missing, and it does slide up and out of the grooves far too easily.

As for other accessories...lost a couple of hotshoe covers. Ditto lens caps. And I had a lens hood explode once, when it took a direct hit from a polo ball. But it saved my lens, camera, flash and face from far worse damage.

I've never lost an eyecup either, but the one on my OM-D EM5 is trying very hard to fall apart and no glue seems capable of holding it together for long.

I lost one on my D7100 (or was it my D7000)?. They pop off much too easy when putting the camera in and out of a snug bag (I often carried it in a Tamrac Velocity 6--still my favorite lightweight bag to carry the D7xxx with the 18-200, 10-20, and 10.5 fish).

I've had them start to come off since, but I pay attention to it. Fortunately, they're not expensive to replace.

I think it's also happened (the eyecup starting to come off) for my D600 as well.

I think it's a Nikon thing in the way they don't lock in.

And in the last 18 months, I rarely use my Nikons, since I switched to the Fuji. So not since! I keep wondering if I can ever go back to an SLR and a non-electronic viewfinder (at least one as good as the Fuji).

Given how terrible the EM5 eyecup is at staying on I am really surprised. I have have 5 or 6 from my EM5 and 1 from my EM1. I now have 5 for each camera, 3 stay at home (in 2 different locations incase I forget where I hid them), 2 in very different areas of my camera bag. I scratched the poop out of a pair of glasses shooting without one on my EM5, so super paranoid about losing another and not having a replacement.

Out of half a dozen Nikons, I've lost one.

It will slide off stuffing it in a bag.

Pretty sure that's how I lost the one I did.

I guess I'll have to start looking for a replacement then. It's awful that a camera of that calibre should have a fault of that kind. Ever since I bought my fisheye lens I've gone back to using my Canon 7D as my main camera and mainly only use the Olympus at home. As it's almost permanently on the tripod the eyecup doesn't get bumped around so I'd forgotten about the problem.

Nope - never lost an eyecup.

I used to keep handfuls of them in my camera bag; used to lose them all the time. Since the Canon 1D mark IV though, they've modified the latching mechanism, and I've never lost one since.

I lost one years ago while walking on a track by Waitomo Caves. During the walk I walked passed a couple of foreign tourists as you do. Shortly after completing that walk I went on to another track a few kilometers away & coincidentally walked passed the same two tourists who stopped & asked me if I had lost the eye cup to my camera. Up until that point I didn't realize it was gone. They told me they had found it on a bridge on the track & left it on the hand rail so I quickly drove back there & it was still there where the left it so technically I suppose I haven't lost one but I gave it a pretty good go that day.
