I am going on a photo trip to Cuba next month and decided to see if I could upgrade from my 7D. With the new 5D Mark IV out, there have been a few Mark III's up for sale and I finally managed to snag one (3rd attempt). Only has ~17K actuation's, so it is practically new.

Hopefully I can get to try it out this weekend. I have to figure out all the bells and whistles! I am also anxious to see how noticeable the difference will be in IQ. I expect the low light performance will be glaringly obvious, although I won't expect too much difference in good lighting.

Congrats! You will enjoy the upgrade.

Even if Canon is not the low light king 5DIII is absolutely better than 7D and in general full frame is always a big improvement in high ISO performances.

ooh that's fabulous! I envy you both - the full frame and the Cuba trip.
You'll enjoy it!

Congrats! You will love it. I recently upgraded to full frame and I must say I didn't really expect much difference but the difference is huge in my opinion. Enjoy!!

Enjoy!
I'm currently loving the sophisticated AF of the 5D series, which is light-years apart from the accurate but somewhat basic system on the 6D.

Never mind me, I'm currently fighting a bad case of G.A.S. (Gear Acquisition Syndrome).

Not so much what I'm eying as what I've eyed, LOL. In the past year or so I've sprung for the Sigma 50/1.4 Art, the Sigma 20/1.4 Art, the Canon 8-15 fish (used), and the Canon 100-400 II (used), plus the 5D Mk IV body.

I'm Canadian, it's a popular vacation spot up here, although I have never been before.

It's a week long trip with half a dozen photographers and 4 or 5 models. It's all arranged by a local pro who will be giving instruction throughout the day.

That's was one of the main reasons for not going with the cheaper 6D. I don't think I could have put up with the AF when I am already used to the one on my 7D. The frame rate is also much lower than what I am used to. The Mark III is also slower in that respect, but not by too much.

Oddly, the AF system was one of the lesser reasons for my migration back to the 5D series... I've been using the 6D pretty much exclusively for almost three years, and really have had no complaints. That said, the 5D Mk IV AF system is in a *completely* different class, but then again it is nearly identical to the AF system from the 1DX2, so we'd expect top-of-the-class performance.

I would have loved to have upgraded to the Mark IV as well, but I just couldn't justify the cost. The fortunate thing is that it has increased the availability of the Mark III, and that is still a significant upgrade for myself. Maybe if I successfully attempted to sell some pics, I could justify the cost of newer gear.
