One thousand apologies for the state of the site over the past few days. We had some cooling failures at our hosting facility that caused a bunch of issues (servers powering themselves down after reaching their thermal limits).

At this point, everything should be resolved, however there will be 1 more (ideally brief) outage after a data migration to ensure no loss of data.

We've extended three affected challenges (submitting and voting) deadlines until tonight as a result of the outage.

Thank you for the update.

Next time please can you do a mass mail out to let us know you haven't just shut up shop and vanished forever. I assume you are still able to do this even if the site is down.

Actually, not. The server was offline and that's where the database lives...

I've seen this so often on some of the writing sites I've used that I've learnt not to worry too much any more.

I have to ask, was the new topic planned for or slipped in at an opportune moment? :)

My guess is that it's Langdon's sense of humor ;)

Notice the new topic's been MODIFIED to make it more DPC-specific and it's now EXTENDED editing with a FLAG to allow mining your archives :-)

I'm assuming the DNG pass isn't allowed here?

Can't we get the site to crash again? I'll spending way too much time trying to Photoshop this entry...

I expect we'll give it a pass again. I'd certainly advocate doing so if it happens to come up in validation.

What's happened to the voting breakdown on the images after the challenge is over...they seemed to have disappeared!

You can only see the voting breakdown for images on which you have actually cast a vote now.

When did that happen and why?

They wouldn't just change this without having consulted the paying members beforehand would they ? that would be too much salt in an already over salted wound.

The site's having an issue with 'bots engaged in image-grabbing, supposedly for "research" purposes. The lockdown of the voting histograms for non-voters is an attempt to stifle that. It's been going on for a couple months now, and it has been discussed in the forum before, briefly. A lot of details will not be forthcoming because site-security issues are played close to the vest.
