You may have seen the news about a newlywed couple getting post-ceremony pictures near a Colorado reservoir when a rattlesnake bite to the groom's ankle interrupted. Check out this news article, which includes some strikingly good images (scroll down to see) article. Happily they managed to get the reception after he hospital visit. Lesson: keep shooting no matter what.

No.. Just no, that's not how rattlesnakes work.

Almost certainly they were paying attention to the photographer, and ignoring the ground, and he probably quite literally stepped on it.

Interestingly, it would seem that one of the photos supports my supposition.

Look at the pic of the snake, notice the footprints where the actual rattlesnake is, in medium height grass? Yep. That's the second best way to get bitten by a rattler, the best, of course, is actually attempting to handle the snake...

Yeah...like rattlesnakes can *jump*, especially on a walking path, right when they can sense vibrations from something way bigger than them. In which case, most snakes like to get out of the way.
