I used to be able to open a huge number of images in PS. Now it's limiting me to 10 or 11 at a time.

Any ideas?

Have you checked what you're using for scratch disks? As I remember you need at least 3-5 times the free file space as the size of each image, so a modest 20MB TIFF file also needs 100MB free space to open/edit. (I realize I'm talking ridiculously small numbers for you DSLR/RAW shooters -- just multiply appropriately.)

In the old days you could allocate more dedicated RAM to the program, but I don't know how that works currently.

I agree with The Gen.

Is it giving you an error or just not opening them?

No message or error whatsoever. It just stubbornly refuses to open any more.

Edit>Preferences>Performance

There you can choose how much RAM the program can use, and where to put your scratch file.

How big are the files?

Same as they were before. None over 2 gigs, if that's where you're going.

I suggest you experiment by making a bunch (20 or so) of images about the size of a DPC entry and see if you can open a larger quantity. That would pretty conclusively establish whether it has anything to do with memory issues or is completely unrelated.

I'll try, but I'm only opening raw images, as I did before. No pp'g at all.

Just opened 37 jpgs without a hitch.

Since some changes don't go into effect immediately are you closing the program then opening it again after you make any changes? Just a thought!

It's weird 'cuz if you were opening 20-30 RAW images at once, presumably out of Bridge, then it would be Camera Raw that was opening them, not CC... In any case, if you want to bulk process RAW images you really, really want to be using Lightroom for the job, at least as among the Adobe products. LR is designed to facilitate such workflows.

But of course!

Not doing bulk editing. Just doing a bunch of different tweaks on a bunch of different images. I used to be able to open more than 20 at a time from LR to CS. It still opens them but not more than 7-8 at any time.
