To be totally honest, all I had at the first shoot was my D700 and my 70-200 2.8. Looking back, that's a little embarrassing.
I was walking backstage and I heard Robert Lamm quietly say "Hey Cindy". So I stopped and leaned in the doorway. He says, "This is my best angle". He's sitting just inside the doorway looking towards the back of the dressing room. I'm leaning on the other side of the doorway looking at this beautiful man whose voice I've danced to since high school. He's pretty much asking me to take a picture of him and all I have is a 70-200 and the dressing rooms in this place used to literally be jail cells. Needless to say, the first thing I did after the show is invest in the 24-70.
So, for the show coming up, I'll have my D700, the 70-200 2.8, the 24-70 2.8, and I'll be renting a 2nd body (I hear there's a new Nikon with super ISO powers). I'm also considering renting something a little wider for the pre-shoots of the new guys and perhaps a 400mm if I can find one I can afford. Wally says his favorite photos are the ones taken from the balconies because it makes his chin look younger. :)

Make sure you're super-realistic with your travel costs, is one bit of advice. DON'T short-change yourself. Charge everything it costs you AND mark it up (that's for the overhead). Or negotiate a generous per diem for expenses.

YES! LOL... Travel to Portland and the next show in Lynn, MA won't be a problem since I'm right in the middle in Dover. I've thought about you guys since I've been up here, but I've no car to come visit.
I probably did shortchange myself at $300/show, but I've been doing it for free up until now and this foot in the door is priceless! I haven't given him a number for the posed group shots. I'm sure now that I'll be asking for lodging where they are staying so I can get up there and scout things out. |
Wait...you're in Dover? as in Dover, NH? I am in Biddeford...20 minutes South of Portland and about 30 minutes out of Dover....How can I help? Besides this LETS HAVE LUNCH!!!! I will drive. |
