As promised, here are the
Art of 2015 ImageNation Team jury awards!

I was compelled to recruit my team to create special awards for this challenge – an annual favorite of mine. It became quite a challenge in itself to narrow down a small but sufficient number of images that we “agreed” on. We finished with 5 top choices and several honorable mentions. I was once again reminded of what an eclectic array of opinions and styles we have :)

I want to sincerely thank my teammates: sfalice, jnenvir, Ecce_Signum, smurfguy, romil and odriew for participating and working with me to come up with some great choices.

Top Choices have received the following virtual bling:

_____

The Door Opener – by josaa

The kid opening a door, while appealing, truly becomes art when the arrow is added. So much depth and so much to read in this photograph. Indeed, it could be the start of an imagined adventure for the viewer as well as the child.
sfalice

This feels like the door to Narnia, or somewhere full of endless possibilities. Love the perfect placement of the white arrow and the shoe, a hint of an adult left behind in the "real" world.
Odriew

My god I love this one. I just do. I feel the excitement of the kid wanting to know what's on the other side of the door. The big arrow on the floor feels like he was on a quest and he finally found the arrow which pointed to the right door. My only qualm is the beam on the left edge of the picture. That could have gone away.
romil

_____

SYMMARTRY – Kroburg

This bold, geometric image has a lot going for it. The perfectly balanced, yet vertiginous shapes, the complimentary colors and the very unusual visual aspect of this image makes it a keeper in my book.
sfalice

This one is for the color and the execution. The verticals in the picture are beautiful. Although very commonly done, it's still very appealing to me.
romil

_____

Layers of – mitalapo

I feel like I'm staring at a lump of sand and the images just start to form effortlessly. It's uncertain if the figures really exist or they're just a figment of my imagination.
Odriew

Surely all has become a photocopy of our dreams; a silkscreen of memories where we fill in the blanks with what we want - or what we regret. This was clearly dug up by aliens after the apocalypse. Sometimes I see a bare breasted woman taking a photo of her reflection; and a man holding a young child. The processing and mystery keep me coming back for more.
Tate

"Move along, nothing to see here"
Unless you open your mind and let go - thanks for this 'Art' and allowing my mind to wander for a few moments. (bumping 1)
Ecce_Signum

It took a while for me to see it, but then the Art in this came on strong. Powerful image.
sfalice

_____

Desert Rain by ecmguy

Well, it almost seems like a unanimous decision to select this one on our top choices, eh? The patterns and shadows are wonderful. The sky lends an impeccable contrast to the overall look of the picture. This is professional stuff.
romil

Lovely textures, repeating patterns and rhythms, seemingly endless undisturbed beauty. In my top 5.
smurfguy

So, before I started voting I told myself landscapes would not score well from me in this challenge.
There is always one exception to every rule and this is the one for me. Light, dark, texture, shape, contrast, depth. This really fits the challenge for me and my only thought would be to crop all/most of the sky out and leave more of an abstract set of shapes in a letterbox style (bump of 2 to a 9).
Ecce_Signum

a seductive image with dramatic shadows and enchanting patterns and rhythm. The curve that sweeps across the bottom of the frame jumps the eyes up to the dunes and the ominous sky. A large print of this would look great hanging in a five-star lobby or gallery.
Tate

_____

Burano by wbanning

There's a lot holding this together. Everything seems in the right place. It has time stamps all over it. The weathered windows on the textured surface - cut up by pipes and finally the wires splitting the image into 2 neat halves. The colors continue to delight the eyes as we travel through time. The flowers show that this place is still incredibly charming and cared for.
Tate

This perfectly composed image has so much going for it, it's hard to know where to start First, it's painterly, second, it uses excellent variations of the primary colors perfectly, and finally, it has delightful and interesting detail to keep the viewer entranced for a long time.
sfalice

Team Honorable Mentions:

jnenvir and Ecce_Signum felt strongly about both

Delicate by gipper11

relaxing, neat, and clean. Could hang on a wall for a long time.
jnenvir

Tis funny, I started voting on this challenge with quite a strict idea of what 'Art' meant to me and this particular type of shot wasn't on my 'list'.

Even guys can change their minds lol (bump of 1).
Ecce_Signum

________

In Between by grahamgator

texture and color pallete are very appealing,
jnenvir

After my first pass of voting I've returned for another look and this image has been on my screen for a full 5 minutes.

If I'm honest I'm not the biggest fan of textures however, a challenge about 'Art' changes things. There is nothing extra ordinary here but I find myself being transported into the scene and taking in unknown surroundings.

This is my pick for the blue and, if I have any influence with my ImageNation team mates there could be more bling to go along with my (big)bump to a 10.

Additional Honorable Mentions go to:

Zipper by Techo

The nearly perfect symmetry, the tones, and the speckeled dusty texture make this one of my favorites. Most of all, I love the way it feels like it's drawing you in and pointing the way to something.
smurfguy

and

Dragons by aznym

I've never seen sensor dusts utilized to enhance an image, they really add to the mood of the image. This makes you feel like you're walking on the beach on a gloomy, rainy day.
Odriew

and

just thoughts... by lei_73

The complementary colors are candy. The blurred motion of the snow is just right to add a dreamy natural texture. The clean processing on the railings reminds a David Hockney painting. And McDonalds. The shadowy reflection on the right is ominous while the mysterious object on the left keeps us in reality and out of a dream. The composition is balanced and the eyes can't help but jump around with wonder.
Tate

ETA:

Bent by Ja-9
encourages the view to contemplate the forest
jnenvir

and

Art of Cycling by robst

captured the motion and drama with an elegance I've seldom seen in sport photos
jnenvir

Additional Honorable mentions may be added by teammates! ...

I was surprised just how difficult it was to sit on the ImageNation Jury and spent hours selecting my top 5 to go forward to the argument fight name calling final selection process and (IMHO) had an eclectic set of images.

My personal HM goes to snaffles for her Snow Pony. Congrats Susan, left a comment and will pm you with my bank details :)

Thanks to all those that have commented in this thread, it's always good to be recognised for recognising people! Also, I'd like to thank Tate and the rest of ImageNation for doing this but don't ask next year lol

Hi everyone,

We've added a few more honorable mentions to the original post:

Whereas the Top Choices gained support from the team as a whole, we also invited our teammates award HMs to the stand-out images at the top of their personal lists.

Congrats Techo, aznym, and lei_73, selected by myself, Odriew, and Tate respectively.

Viewing this challenge was a joy. Thanks everyone!
