Has anyone made and received a photo book from Shutterfly yet? Quality? I'm ordering some prints from them to see how they are doing these days (ordered the exact same prints from DPC to compare).

I've ordered the books from shutterfly, as well as a plate with a photo on it, and lots of enlargements, including to poster size prints I now have hanging. In general, I've been very happy. Plus they don't make you scale the photo up to print it. I made a poster size of my 4MP photo "Sunset Bow" and it looks marvelous, without any pre-interpolation.

I recently ordered about 40 4x6 prints from shutterfly, and was very pleased with the results on both the glossy and matte prints... I am also interested to know how the photobooks turn out!

Oops--I retract my statement. I ordered snapbooks from shutterfly, I thought that's what you meant. Sorry. The photobooks look cool!

Thanks for the replies. I'm still hoping someone has already ordered one of these photo books. I think instead of a "portfolio" of "20 to 25 8x10s" I think I may just use this. It's not pro art critics reviewing my work. It's brides and grooms. And I think these books LOOK nice. We'll see how they turn out. I know Shutterfly puts out a decent product and it's not like I'm leaving dpcprints for my 4x6's...:) I already checked tho and ezprints doesn't allow this thing, so I'm hoping I can get it from shutterfly if it comes out well.

We'll see...anyone else?

I haven't ordered a photo book from them, but have ordered tons of other specialty items in the past and have always been extremely pleased with their quality.

I don't know if they are related... but ofoto had photo books just about the same time as shutterfly and the books from both companies look quite similar.

I have dealt with ofoto more than shutterfly so I went with them. I have purchased two books from them and have been very pleased with the results.

Personally, I had semi-serious quality issues with shutterfly. The fact that they seem to ignore the whole color management issue is worrisome too. Even if you know what their FCA output is like, the book paper is bound to be different (?) so the output isn't predictable. Ofoto sucked ass the last time I tried them.

Oh yeah, here's a thread where I posted samples of each. While the images there are useful in some comparative sense, the standard caveats apply.

Then again, things change. The market is about the same so I doubt there's any reason for shutterfly or ofoto to have made significant changes to their processes. Most people are probably just too tickled pink to see their photos in a book to care about the quality.
