I am sooo excited!!!

I just got my license for On1 Photo 10 and I am soooooooo happy with it! Just so much easier and smoother than Nik Collections, almost puts it to shame really..

Am in love with this editing program! Rocks!!!!

Who else has it and how are you liking it??!

OnOne has improved much from it's humble beginnings. One thing that drives me crazy about it is how much memory it consumes and takes to load images after editing. It will never replace Nik for me, but just supplement it.

I have it and I use it with some frequency, but I spend MUCH more time in Nik, mostly because I edit a lot with control points. But On1 has some very nice stuff and the new interface is much better. It's really good for just throwing a "mood" onto otherwise straight photography.

Glad this post has come up. I have just purchased On1 but have a question of others that are using it.
I edit into On1 from lightroom which ads a PSD file to lightroom. Have only been playing around at this stage but when I do an edit and return to lightroom the file size is over 300mb and sometimes close to 400mb!!!!
I don't select the smart object, just the normal.

Am I doing something wrong?
Is there a setting I can alter to fix this?

I'm not interested in files sizes this large as it will fill up any hard drive just too quickly and I have Topaz as an alternative.

That's a good question because I have been noticing it as well, When I find out I will let you know, I do not know that answer because I just got it tonight, its like a new toy in toyland I have also installed the re-size program as well but have not gotten around to seeing what that is about and I wonder if that program would help the file sizes a bit, I have no clue
I am just trying to figure out what the tool bars are and what each section does yet, the tutorials are helping for sure though

I am just playing in it now, but I think I will still use Nik for certain things still especially for silver efex pro, On1 does not match up to my black and white editing "yet" until I figure it out, and some of the other options it has that ON1 has not. I agree frank for sure, I sure do think it will supplement each other nicely though on certain things :-)

Bear, I did not notice the control points, that is a good comment to make because I use them a lot as well since you have shown me how a while back, it was an important part of editing and controlling certain areas.

I really really love the layering in it at the moment and much smoother work flow which I really like. Over late time bed time now though, you know your having fun when

I purchase Perfect Photo Suite 8 a couple years ago as well as the Nik Collection. Both are very good tools that do similar things, but here's where they really differ for me. I spent $150 for Nik and a little less for onOne. Since that time I have investing $0 in Nik as they've added and updated Analog Efex, as well as making some additions to other tools. onOne has asked me to spend $99 to upgrade to version 9, and now asking again for more $$ to upgrade to 10, all within 2 1/2 years of my initial purchase. No thank you.

As for the tools, I find that Perfect Effects has some nice presets that I'll use, and Perfect Portrait is great for facial retouching, but otherwise I'd much rather spend my time in Nik. Control points are an amazing time saver and to do the same thing with layer masks requires getting to know how to use Color Range and Luminosity masking to do the same thing - great to learn, but I'd rather not do it all the time. And Silver Efex Pro is hands down the best B&W conversion tool I've used (I also have Topaz BW Effects).

But, to each their own.

Glad you like it and works for you. I have On1 Suite 9 but stopped using it and work most of the time with Nik and Topaz which I love and are perfect for what I need. On1 have definitely improved in Suite 10 but considering how little I use it, I can't really justify upgrading.

Happy editing! :)

Have sent an email to ON1 in regard to the large file sizes.
If files sizes can't be reduced then I will get a refund.
Not interested in files this large filling my hard drives in no time.
Don't have this problem with Topaz so will just stick to using that with Elements to work with layers etc.
Will advise when I receive a reply to my request.

Are you creating and saving layers in ON1? If so, the size goes with the processing. I get the same thing creating new layers in Photoshop - a 35MB file from a 24MP image quickly escalates into 300-600MB's after a couple trips into and out of filter programs. Each non-adjustment layer is a copy of the image with adjustments applied. Whether PSD or TIFF, you're gonna get big files. ON1's use of layers may exacerbate this (they may use multiple layers in each filter invocation). I'd be curious to see what the PSD file looks like when you open it in Photoshop.

Yeah, I was kinda blanking a little when you were going through the Control Points...I know they're there, just need to figure out how to use em.

I edit in lightroom then move to Effects. Might do one thing and then return to lightroom.
File is now over 300mb and and sometimes over 400mb.
I have only just purchased it so I might get a refund with their 30day no questions asked refund.

I Think that is exactly what is happening now that it is mentioned, the layers do make it larger.. I have done an example of a current photo I am working on for the animal shelter,
When I merged the layers together, it shorted the file size

Had a play with this a couple of times but find nothing that is better than nik here.

Guess its just a matter of taste.
