Who are these people who would give that photo a 1 or 2??????????????????????????????????????????

I don't know, but they vote on my stuff every time!

It seems to happen to most people
but certainly seems unfair when an image fits the challenge

The baby image above is just so beautiful

My image in touch definaetly fit the challenge but I received many low scores
Place: 103 out of 283

1 8
2 15
3 26
4 38
It did fit the challenge

Maybe DPC should consider a must comment voting system on low and high votes. I don't know if it can be applied or if it has been suggested before. Example would be:
1. A vote of 1, 2, or 3 requires a comment.
2. A vote of 8, 9, or 10 requires a comment.
3. If the comment has nothing to do with the photo and why you gave it such a score the vote is deleted [not counted]

It has been suggested and shot down because people are lazy and it would just skew the scores.

Ditto. One of my three favorites for that challenge.

Thanks for your kind comments! I posted a slightly retouched version in my portfolio, where I sharpened the image a little and adjusted the contrast, if anyone is interested.

I was surprised that the image did so well.

Thanks again to all who commented.

I wasn't surprised your shot did so well aquapreta.. it's a great shot!

I voted it quite high, and I extend my congratulations for taking over temporary top-spot on the Fuji S7000 :)

I have some work to do.. I held the spot for all of 2 days.

Aguapreta- your retouched version is even better. That certainly would have ribboned.

The expression of the baby is just so precious and your title fits the picture and vice versa. It also helps that the hand of the father (?) is very strong. Try also cropping tight - just the palm, the head and part of the shoulder of the baby.

Actually did a tighter crop, but this seemed much more effective.

Thanks for the comments.

I try to leave comments on what I vote 1 or 2. The problem is that when I do, I'm deluged with emails telling me why my opinion is wrong. It makes me want to stop leaving comments unless they are positive. Top photos I usually don't have comments about other than the usual "nice job" etc., etc. which aren't really constructive other than as an ego stroke. Recently, I've made it a point to go to a percentage of what I vote as middle of the road and comment on what I thought prevented me from voting the image higher.

Now if I could only practive what I preach...
