No thread about that here yet?

Just upgraded. First impression: Microsoft is too customer friendly, so that didn't worked for me (running English version, so I couldn't upgrade, because I have a Dutch IP, so why does that need a download of a complete image?). Luckily I could download an (US) English version. After some (manual) reboots I can use both monitors again, still in desperate need for some recalibration. Most of my old programs works, but sadly not all:( Looks like I'm going to have a busy weekend. Btw. Upgraded from 8.1 Pro to 10 Pro.

Any other experience?

I think I've learned that these days there isn't a ton of benefit in being among the first. I'll wait for the first patch.

News just mentioned there is a security problem of some sort. I'll stick with my Mac

I had it running on a laptop for a few months last Fall... I went back to Win7 only because of driver issues for the graphics card in the laptop. Otherwise, I think Win10 is going to be a very good OS. I'm going to reinstall on my laptop at some point here, but I'm not in any great rush.

FWIW, it may well be possible to get older programs working by tweaking the compatibility settings. I'm actually surprised that a program that ran under 8.1 is not running under 10.

Not the most helpful error message I have ever seen. At least they covered their bases though.

I'm undecided about the upgrade. I really don't want to be forced to spend money on new software.

Yikes! That's the "best" error message I've seen. Developers have gone lazy. No error#? is that the new and hip BSOD (blue screen of death)? the old one was more informative.

According to this NY Times Article

"For would-be switchers, Microsoft offers a web tool where users can check if their apps are compatible with Windows 10 before making the switch."

Hahaha! A much more honest message anyway...

I can't wait to have Windows 10 running. There will always be a few bugs with any software, Microsoft's get found out easier because there are so many users. If you get issues and funny errors like the "Something Happened", report it - Microsoft have a great customer line, and will be grateful. I loved Win 8.1. Got a Nokia too and can't wait for the Win 10 phone version to be released. I think the new Windows OS's are a massive step up from the traditional Win 98 style.

And Win 10 is free, and you really don't have to upgrade if you don't want to.

i was daring. i bypassed the rollout and forced the update from windows 7, not even a clean install. i dont really store any files locally so i didn't even do a backup.

it took about an hour but when it was done all my software was still installed all my files were still there and all my software works from what i can tell. even my firefox extensions were installed and from what i can tell the cookies still existed since i was didn't have to relog into websites.

everything from what i could tell was the same except the OS looks different.

pretty impressed with the process.

I get a free version upgrade and I can not wait to get out of windows 8, I HATE it with a passion.

However, downside, my work programs are not fast enough to handle windows 10,my laptop is.
I have to wait till we get an OK from my clients before I can upgrade. (Which I hope so soon)

Does anyone know if the older software versions of photoshop and lightroom will work on Windows 10 or not?

Yes! This can be an issue if you use a lot of apps. I have had no problem with any apps I want and use and my Google mail and calendar sync perfectly. The only thing I wish for is Chrome. I'm loving the OneDrive thing - I find it much better and easier than Drive/DropBox.

Yup me neither. Reddit (probably the best app on all platforms), Whatsapp, Instagram (6Tag), and some others are good enough for me. Windows phone is absolutely beautiful and it's good to see the unification of both the PC and the phone OS. Should bring more people on to Windows phone.

Just remember to disable the wifi password sharing and download bandwidth eating options once you've upgraded...

Some are recommending to wait 'til October to upgrade, when a major update is expected to deal with initial release bugs and features they didn't have time to get to before the release deadline. Its free til July 2016 for upgrades (but since my desktop is pushing five years, I'm due for a new build and probably won't get to take advantage of that)

And that's not really a bad idea at all. This is a *significantly* updated OS, and as such there will be some bugs, even though the amount of user testing (through the Windows Insider program) has been incredible.
Personally, I'm waiting to upgrade on my desktop machine because I will be re-building that machine later in the year. The free upgrade is licensed *to the device* so if I upgrade now, I will not be able to use that upgrade once I build my new desktop. The device-based licensing is something that every user should be aware of, and plan for. It's still a nice deal, but it can bite you if you don't realize the licensing is different than it has always been.

I'll give it a try. I have 2 laptops and they came with OEM Windows so license is "to device". I have a Asus T100 which is a touch screen laptop tablet hybrid and I am downloading the upgrade as I type. Once I experience with this I can move to my main machine the Asus N500JV

I'll watch this thread and report back.

Edit: I'm going to click update now...
