ok. so the so-called overlap which is an interlacing must consist of right angled teeth. have I got it now?

I'm not sure I have the right thread but this is my score at present. It's gone up a little so thanks.

wrong... horiz means next to and vert means on top or on bottom. nothing is said about straight line so back off -- and many if not all(!) had to rotate or warp one picture in order to fit it. heee yaaa.

Left angled teeth would work too!
Us lefty folk have enough troubles.

Is it like the left/right brain division where there is an overlap but you're not sure which way?

It not MUST anything... people can vote as they wish... if I see an image that borders on meeting the challenge, but I LOVE the image, I vote it what I see.

You read but you don't comprehend. I never said you "MUST punish", just that you MUST consider the it in the score you give. If you choose to ignore that factor, that's your prerogative. Even in your own sentence you acknowledge it when you say, "if I see an image that borders on meeting the challenge" - you DID factor it.

Again, reading without comprehension. I didn't say anything about a straight line, I referred to alignment. If you bothered to read the entire thread you'd see that I acknowledge that straight lines are not required. There images in the challenge that are obviously aligned in a way other than horizontal OR vertical, they are at an angle which is technically "horizontal AND vertical". Had the "OR" been "or" in the description I wouldn't have given it a second thought.

Ok, hold on a sec... This is making my head sore.

I think the easy way (according to the "explanation") to write this is: You have to decide whether an image which meets the challenge or not increases or decreases the score you give.

Or just not say that, because, well, it's obvious. On the first quote, "if the image does not meet the challenge" and "MUST", it certainly sounds like "MUST punish DNMC". So what's the rule?

Wow. I have no idea what you mean. Either the line is horizontal, vertical or diagonal. The alignment of the images rides on that line as far as I understand it. Maybe you mean not horizontal or vertical alignment as in:

Or is this not aligned horizontally or vertically?

Sheesh, how else can you align images, if not horizontally or vertically? I'm confusing myself here...

lol. I think I'm going to write a tutorial wiki: "How to vote".

How is this rocket science? Here is precisely what I mean by "horizontal" and "vertical"...

Black is one image, white is the other. Arrows show orientation of subjects in the photo. Once aligned, I could care less how you overlap/mask the border (I hope y'all can follow along in the lower set of images).

Yes, it would be OK if either of the joined images were turned upside-down before joining, and (jeezus) yes it would be OK if the original orientation was "artfully crooked" as shot. I'm talking about OBVIOUS orientations in the original shots, not artful stuff, and how the abutment line is formed. Again, it's not rocket science, and it's MY criteria based on the EMPHASIS in the challenge description. I am not advocating anyone else use it, I just thought I was contributing to the discussion, but apparently I only contributed to the ulcer this place can give me.

And please, OH PLEASE, do not think that my overly exaggerated masking on the bottom combinations shows what I do or do not believe to be "OK". I made them purposefully exaggerated to show that the ONLY thing I'm referring to in my original statement is the orientation and join alignment of the original images.

Yes, exactly. Nice picture of what you mean. Tilted seam = DNMC. Jagged seam = DMC, unless the average of the jagged seam is tilted.

Then this appears to be a misunderstanding:

I think I will now diminish and go into the west.

No, it's not rocket science. Rocket science is understanding when it's appropriate to bang on and on about how people should vote on a challenge while it's in voting.

And it's also recognizing when someone states explicitly that they are not, in any way whatsoever, telling people how to vote, before banging on them about spending time clarifying a position they thought was crystal clear in their OP.

In my case, it wasn't crystal clear to me or I wouldn't have felt the need to respond.

Unsurprised you're holding onto a pedantic definition for "how to vote." No, you're not suggesting numbers, but quite clearly — NOW with illustrations! — you're on a mission to inform all voters and participants as to what is and what is not DNMC on a challenge that is in voting. It's as obvious an intent to influence voting as there could be. If you need to create visuals for yourself to help you vote, knock yourself out, but posting them publicly is inappropriate. Borrowing from your illustrations, this issue is black and white.

No, I wasn't talking about jagged lines. A diagonal should be fine. Whether the juxtaposition is perceived as horizontal vs. vertical depends on the visual orientation of the images involved (e.g. tilted tree below). It's an interpretation. Besides, for the images without a gutter, you don't even know the location or angle of the actual division line if the backgrounds blend.

I seem to have forgotten, is daft a word ?

It sounds ok when I say it, but not so much ritten here.

This site will dead and you folk will still be talkin' crap forever.

considering the thinking outside the box challenge rewarded "literal interpretation", i'm not shocked at this conversation.

I'd think horizontal or vertical in the finished image

IMO blended backgrounds are at least DNMC or even DQable, since this is not an expert editing challenge

ok; let's just curb the ranting about how to vote on a FUN challenge that is currently IN VOTING.

I'm disappointed with my score here, and it's no surprise why.
I've finished my voting and I've scored an average score almost 2 full points above my current score, so stuff it with the bemoaning about what's dmnc vs dq-able, if you don't think it should be there, flag it, vote or don't, and move on. the SC will sort it out if it's flagged.

You have rated 100 of 104 images (96%) in this challenge. (can't vote on DPL team images)
You have commented on 37 images (35%) in this challenge.
You have given an average score of 6.8100.
