It's been said before, but I'll say it again - when you have 160-200 people participating in a challenge AND a DPL going, it's utterly ridiculous that you have half as many votes as you have entries.

I've heard the reasons for not voting in a challenge you participate in, and no matter how I twist them it's moronic. Has the SC ever divulged the percentage of non-participant votes compared to participants? If every participant sat out voting what would we have, 10-15 votes? I suspect even that's high - and judging from some entries that have well about the average number of votes I suspect they'd do rather well if you look at the averages.

There should be no participation awards here unless you truly participate.

Participation is key. Voting is part of that. Please somebody come up with a solution for this.

Call me crazy... is there a quicker way to vote than to have to click on the numbers? As in using the number pad, etc.?

yeah man, I'm pretty much a keyboard only voter. 1-0 keys (mostly in the 5-8 range)

I second, third, and fourth this! It doesn't make any sense to me that this is a voting site for photos and you get and want votes for your photos but won't give votes! What if we all stop voting?

Thank you! Maybe this'll get me voting.

I put one of those glass birds with the liquid in it over the 5 key and walk away

On the subject of voting, I was all set to propose some symbol like this one: for those who vote 100% on Challenges. But I was reminded by a teammate that we used to have a very actively sought after award for 100, 500 and more challenges voted.

Does anyone remember the award? Perhaps it could be reinstated. Maybe all we need is a little incentive.

Judi used to give out sparkling ribbons if I remember right.

i dont vote as much as I should for the simple reason that the new larger images take forever to load at the office. our internet connection sucks and waiting for the images to load is maddening.

i vote when i get a chance at home, which isn't very often or I'll suffer through at the office if i like the topic.

One thing is for sure. Threads like this have instilled enough guilt in me that I've stopped entering.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch - if we could stop sniping at each other,
smardaz gave the right clue. It was Judi who had that design.

So, to incentivize voters, is there someone among us who could design a symbol for Voting, rather than commenting,
and see if it works for better voting records?

Such a genius would be welcome to use this little "I Voted" badge that California gives out to folks who vote in elections.

I've hidden the snippier comments on this thread. Keep it productive and stop calling each other out.

SC is currently discussing this very thing, so we can also have "official" recognition for voting and commenting :)

I don't know, maybe I'm being weird, but I'm not crazy about having awards for voting. I'm not sure if I remember correctly but I think handing out the sparkle ribbons encouraged speed voting just to get a little piece of bling. How to get people to vote, I'm not sure. I vote and I vote a lot...I passed 100,000 given votes just recently. I enjoy doing it. I've been here 10 years now and there are always more people who enter than who vote. It sucks for sure. I like the idea of have special challenges for people who participate in the site other than just by entering challenges.

Why not a challenge for people who have more than a certain amount of votes given? I know we've done things like that for people who take the time to comment often. I just don't care for the idea of giving awards for something people should be doing anyway.

You're not remembering correctly, the sparkling ribbons were for 100% commenting. Alice is just suggesting another version. I think if one member wants to hand out an award for anything it's not really up to anyone else if they should do it or not.

Yet I can express an opinion about it. They can do whatever they like.

No, I'm disallowing opinions henceforth....And I'm going to start giving ribbons out to people who keep their opinions to themselves....

On second thought, maybe I'll give out ribbons to those who give too many opinions, something like this maybe?

Then we are screwed as we will never get one of those ribbons...unless you can make it really super sparkly and out of teddybears and unicorns or something. Then I might be persuaded to shut up just to get one of those on my profile page.
