Start posting your June essays here.

Please link your photo essays to a DPC thumbnail, regardless of where your essay is published. This thumbnail will represent your cover image. To keep things simple, make essay comments on the cover image. Having this information in one place makes it easier to see the communities opinions and thoughts. We don’t have a panel to judge these essays so your comments are appreciated.

Continue any discussion about this side challenge in the Photo Essay Side Challenge Discussion forum.

Enjoy!

Crikey these photo essays are good! (I exclude my own, which is not a photo essay and is not in the spirit of the exercise).

beautiful meeting of mortality and spirituality.

a charming parable, a small story and a large story told in the same words and images.

from DPC's incomparable artist-with-camera; poet-with-camera. Even superlatives are not enough.

an utterly original and perfectly orchestrated meeting of analog and digital.

Paul, thanks for the mention. I enjoy the process, so the lack of interest on DPC isn't discouraging. The wonderful feedback and inspiration I've received from you and many other essayists is reason enough to continue.

Each and everyday, more and more endangered species are being pushed to the brink of extinction. One such species is the Photo Essayist. We are asking for your help in keeping this side challenge alive and well on DPC. Something as simple as a comment would encourage them to forge ahead. No contribution is to small and I’m certain they would appreciate your support.

I haven't had chance yet to look at the essays for June, but I look forward to doing this during the coming weekend.. I'm terribly disappointed not to have found the time to take part. I must try harder for August.

I still find this is the highlight of my DPC participation.

They certainly are.

So if you read this, and have not yet opened the 5 individual essays, I urge you to do so. It will increase your enjoyment of all photographs so much.

My take on the 5 are:

A short thesis to convince us to take the NOODUITGANG- [emergency exit for the few non-Afrikaans-speaking amongst us] .

I must agree with the booklet request.

Like a good picture storybook, you can use your own/different words/story each time you read it.

Wrenching because we are so stupid to let the precious moments by so easily.

As per normal, your images need to be worked on/with by the viewer.

The last days of July, the last hundred meters…I did not want to ignore the June photo essay by either participating or commenting.
Therefore I post a sketch of a photo essay; I am at the very beginning of it. Nevertheless I post it for I want to continue this thread even if I have to show things in progress.
My comments to the June essays will follow shortly.

My thought with this essay started a while ago, probably even before my first essay posted here ("Looking and Seeing") and was prompted by a few lines read here and there that I wish I had articulated myself:
Stieglitz:
"In photography there is a reality so subtle that it becomes more real than reality"

Jorge Luis Borges
"Reality is not always probable, or likely"

So, here it is, a sketch on uncertainty, "What's Real":

This is the first image, click on it and open the following images in the upper left hand corner.

bump

Mariuca, a valuable contributor to the photo essay side challenge, submitted her entry a little late. She's received several looks but only one comment. It would be nice to see a few more comments.

Enjoy!
