I was more interested in playing with my new prime lens and camera, than paying attention to what the challenge was. So much fun anyway :0)
I win the gold again woohoo, I am loving my new toys :-)

Indeed, although I recently sold mine. My Leica 80mm f/1.4 and my Canon 50mm f/0.95 (especially when mounted on my Sony A7II with Voigtlander's close up adapter) are more than a match though... :-)

The Canon 85mm and the 16-35 were the lenses that saw me hanging on to the Canon system. I don't feel I've lost anything now that I've made the break. I did quite a lot of testing first though - wrote a large article over at Steve Huff's site that specifically compares the Canon 85mm with the Leica and my 85mm Jupiter too (amongst other things).

Other than size or weight, which isn't an issue for me being a big guy

What are the actually benefits in switching for someone like me with a lot of canon gear that I know well fits me well etc?

Possibly not a lot, especially if you utilise zooms. But for me:

I already had a Leica M system so it was an exercise in rationalisation - the fly-by-wire focus of the 85 1.2 meant it was unusable with an adapter on the Leica (not that it would make much sense).

If you utilise primes, I walked out with my camera, a 21mm, a 28mm, a 35mm, two 50mm lenses and a 80mm - all in a small Billingham bag. No matter how big you are, that's a significant difference in weight. And in terms of size to travel with, a whole different ball game.

I now have two bodies which can share lenses - even if I could have used some of the Canon lenses on my Leica, it won't work the other way. My M lenses will play nicely with both cameras.

The Sony A7II has IBIS and high ISO capabilities meaning I get additional utility from my M lenses in low light and you can mount pretty much any full frame lens ever made with the right adapters.

There are years and years worth of vintage lenses that I can buy up at camera fairs and be able to use with both cameras. That's fun in itself.

I'm getting better at the manual focus thing - getting used to trusting focus peaking is the key and actually quite a bit quicker than pickling a focus point on the 5DIII (there are so many).

But, for long work, sports, moving targets - I have lost a good deal of capability. Having said that, I practically never shoot that sort of stuff.

I'll now get back with the thread:

I'm currently doing pretty well in voting. I've had a quick look at the offerings and it seems like people did a really good job given the limitations (or freedom?) of Minimal.

Doing ok with what I had, I was torn between a solid ok portrait and a left field one that I really liked that but would have got hammered I kinda wish I'd not been a slave to the score and submitted my other one.

Paul I'm going the other way just been looking at leaf digital backs for my mamiya 645 :)

I can certainly see the logic in that!

Wish I had entered this! Minimal human portrait - probably my favourite thing to do in photography. I've been so out the last few months.
