I just learned how to control my external flash off camera! I know this probably isn't very exciting for anyone else because everyone probably knows how to do this. But I learned something new today!

Of COURSE it's exciting! Your world just got bigger! Congrats!

I you haven't been there, visit //strobist.blogspot.com and go through all of it. Start with Lighting 101.

I agree, that is very exciting!
I've learned a few tricks with my flash, too, but have only ever bothered to scratch the surface. I think it is more work to learn everything there is to know about a high-end flash, than about a DSLR camera. The manual for my flash is bigger, too, I think :-)

That's a great start to bigger things.

I got flashes and a transmitter for Christmas and haven't even had a chance to take them out of the boxes. Someday I may learn what you've learned.

It's fun! Now I have to go dig in the closet and find the stand for the flash! That won't be easy...

Awesome! Now, can you teach me...?

You can always use a tripod as well.

How do you attach a flash to a tripod?

Sounds like there are a number of options. Was going to try duct tape, but thought better of it.

It's cool to learn new things. Figuring out the speedlites were harder for me than figuring out the camera, especially when trying to trigger off camera.

I am actually using my umbrella and stand for the first time since getting it over a year ago. It's fun to figure out new things and advance your knowledge.

Awesome!! That opens up a whole new world!

I don't even have an external flash, but if I did, and could use it, I'd be excited, too! :-) Congrats!

With my external flash that I had and sold, it had a special shoe with the screw holes that went on the tripod..
I thought all of them came like that don't they?

Found the stand in my lens bag! I'm more organized than I thought I was. It is now safely ensconced in the flash case with the flash!

I have found that little stand handy for attaching a flash to a monopod to hold it up high. It will, of course, work on a tripod as well.
