As we all know, there are many people in this site from many different parts of the world, thus from different time zones.
The challenges, however, are scheduled by the server time.

So what if I shoot something and post it within the time frame of the challenge, but my camera's exif says it was shot an hour after the deadline, Would you consider this legal?

not on SC or anything but i bet it will depend on what time zone you live in and if you were facing north when you took the picture *smiles*

Your time zone is taken into account when we look at the file time/date. If you travel out of your native time zone, to be safest you should reset you cam's date/time to the local time, that way the date/time can be evaluated against the information entered in the "location" field.

We will take your time zone into account when validating the photo. Make sure your camera is set accurately for the local time zone in which the photo is taken.

If you are (for example) in Europe and 5 hours ahead of Eastern (DPC Server) Time, your photo taken at 1 am (local time) would still be valid, since it was only about 8 pm in Virginia.

Hah! At least I'm not the totally slowest typist!

time zones are taken into consideration when we verify the exif data. This is why its important to *always* fill in as many details as you can into the photographer's comments section of your submission and given the site council as much information as you can about your shot and your post processing.

edit: wow, I'm slow as molasses these days!

A question of timing, indeed!

Thanks for the info. I remember some people telling in their comments that they submitted pictures just five minutes before the challenge deadline. That made me think. I wouldn't want to be disqualified for that. I'm glad you consider time zones. A lot of work, isn't it? Do you check every single entry on its integrity or just the winners?

This maybe a stupid question, but perhaps one that has not been considered by SC. If someone in a different time zone has their camera setup two hours wrong, in their favour, would their picture be accepted by SC for a challenge??

I have just thought this during reading the thread and it set me thinking that if this is so, then the system is open to abuse!
