What you are advancing here is again but mere speculation. If there is proof then it should be demonstrated.

Your scenario regarding the possible outcome are unproven theories that would not withstand close scrutiny since the variables you throw in simply cannot be measured.

The head coach for the Patriots plays by the very same set of rules that are out there for everyone else and in the instance where something was proven, both he and the team paid a price for it.

Ray

The only advantage the Pats have over other teams is that they get to play in the paltry AFC east with basically zero competition. Having an automatic spot in the playoffs and a free shot at the Superbowl year after year isn't fair.

This has nothing to do with the Pats.
They don't make the schedule or pick the players on the other teams.
Don't they have worse draft picks because the finish so high?

I would be shocked, shocked I tell you, to find out there is anything rigged in the NFL.

Normally the teams would pick in inverse order of finish the previous season.
However, if you are relatively rich in talent (as the champion presuably is) you can afford to (for example) package your first- and second-round picks for another team's higher first-round pick to get that one key player you need.

That's if you have a QB willing to restructure to keep the talent around.
Once your name ends in "super bowl champ" your value goes up.

besides connecting the dots yourself, how exactly does that article infer the nfl is rigged?

The article was about money laundering mostly, not a rigged game.

Do you think Pete Caroll was paid off?
If it was Wilson or Caroll why wait for the last play of the game?
Maybe you think it was the ref's? I didn't see any game changing calls.

And I only saw two completely blown calls, one against (for?) each team. I'm glad they ejected someone for starting the fight, though from what I hear that 15 yard penalty for "celebrating" (after the first Seattle touchdown) seems about 85 yards too short ...

After Baldwin scored to make it 14-23 he got flagged for celebrating.
They didn't show it on TV but he made believe he pulled hid pants down and squatted over the as if he was taking a poop. Very classy.
He was wide open in the end zone because Revis ran into the ref.

A tutorial, of sorts. I'm certain the NFL is as pure as the driven snow.

You did read this part of the initial quote right " One key player (or referee) could alter the outcome of any NFL game enough to cover the point spread"

Two things to be considered in that comment. The first is that one individual is NOT the NFL and second, covering the spread is NOT like determining who will be the ultimate winner.

So I guess it was fixed last year when your beloved Peyton threw the game away.

Just like a pyramid scheme, if it's that easy, why isn't everyone doing it?

Richard, I agree with you on a lot of points, but this argument is just silly. It's exactly like those people who believes the moon landing was faked.

Oh... The moon landing in 1969 is not exactly a sure thing. So, you can think of me whatever...

Did anyone watch the Puppy Bowl? Now there were some fragrant fouls in that one.

gambling is exactly the reason the NFL isn't rigged, its the dirty little secret of the NFL, they need gambling for their success and they have to maintain its integrity. that's why they enforce accurate injury reports for example.

Regarding the Super Bowl:

Seattle got an entire season of great entertainment. We got ecstasy ... and yes ... we got a little agony, too. We were seduced by hope and betrayed by loss.

Our champions stood in for us, charged for us, battled for us ... and yes, they died for our sins.

I'm a 12th man, a 12th fan. You'd rather be rooting for the Jets? The Browns? The Titans? The Raiders fallen from grace? Not that there's anything wrong with that.

"Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure... than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat." - Theodore Roosevelt

I read this with a comma mentally inserted. Or maybe even a semicolon. It seems a tad rude.... ;P

Both team are great and they both deserved to be in the Super bowl, but no matter how big a fan you are or who you root for we all have one thing in common. We want to the the game being played the right way.
In the end the Seachickens did not play the game the right way.
When you go outside the un-written rules and succeed you are a genius but if you fail you are an idiot.
Pete Caroll can go on to win more super bowls but he will forever be known as the man who made "THE CALL".
Don't believe me, go ask Bill Buckner.
