Ha! Yea, right. They might as well rename Minimal and call it 'how to annoy Mike'. ;)

Just take a picture and don't process it. Extra points for an unprocessed boudoir photo. Harness the energy you spend on dreaming there was no minimal editing and direct it towards something important, like ending male pattern baldness, etc.etc.

one last comment. at least allow us to crop and slight rotation. seriously. its nearly impossible to get this shot without being able to crop my shot (i'm still going to try...).

god i hate minimal.

I totally agree.

One thing I have found helpful in my cameras is a setting for aspect ratio. This have given a bit of assistance when I would normally need to crop a 3:2 image.

wow, my shot came out awesome. too bad its seriously flawed for contest from uncontrollable imperfections from my lens and lighting setup.

ETA, i may enter one of the outtakes in another contest where it would probably do much better with the proper edits :)

I had one entry in a minimal challenge that got called up for validation because of the aspect ratio. I was shooting with a Powershot G11 and the frame was more square compared to the typical DSLR, which raised suspicion. (I only know why because the person was someone I am friendly with and they told me why after the challenge was over.)

I am REALLY looking forward to seeing this gallery! I know there will be some expert shooting in a minimal realm. :D

I had something I loved - uploaded - then was reminded exactly what minimal meant.

Doggone it.

Hi guys, this is my first post because I'm a newbie! lol
But I have enjoyed reading the forums and your a lovely group, so hello everyone :)
Anyway I have a question about the minimal rules, my camera has a setting so I can take things like: popart, soft focus, pinhole photographs, is this allowed? after reading the rules I get the feeling its allowed, but I might be wrong.
Thanks :)

If you dial those settings in before than possibly. Once you press the shutter in minimal..that's it. even if the effect is done in camera..if you apply it after its not legal.

Oh man, I just realized this is due tomorrow. Somehow I thought I had until Sunday night.

Just in case anyone else is in the same boat . . .

The important thing is at the very top of the rules:

"Minimal Editing is intended as a "straight from the camera" test of skill, and allows only the adjustments essential to convert your original image into a form acceptable for submission on DPChallenge. Most editing tools are not permitted under these rules. Restrictions on post-processing apply to ALL edits performed after the image is captured, whether on a computer or with in-camera tools."

It's quite clear that this is supposed to be a challenge of photographs presented in a straightforward manner. It's NOT a contest to see who has the fanciest internal processing in their camera's computer.

I have to say I enjoyed this exercise, trying to get everything right. I took over 100 shots, I really love the Canon software to not only look at the pictures on my laptop as I take them but also for being able to sett how many pictures to take automatically and at what interval. Priceless.

Yeah, but it's still legal if the camera applies it at capture (i.e. "Toy Camera", "Selective Color", "B/W"). Post editing in camera is not legal (i.e. "Crop").

I had to reshoot too because I had my camera set to RAW! the good news is that the reshoot was a LOT better.

The light, the light - critical! My only decent one in terms of expression etc. lacks a lot there :(

But . . . I've had the camera in RAW + jpg all week. I have wads of stuff to delete :)

How bad do you think I'll get dinged for sensor dust?
