I'm just being a Smardaz, speaking in generalities, any resemblance to any persons living or dead is purely coincidental.

That's what makes it a challenge.

Just changed my camera to RAW+ JPG. Forgetting that has tripped me up before.

i dont know, i think the simple fact of competition is all the challenge we need :\

Well, a lot of people like an occasional minimal challenge because it pushes you to improve your skills to get it right in the camera. No post processing trickery to save a so-so shot.

Mike has a good point, if your model has a zit or a blemish you're a dead duck.

when a rulesset forces you to change your desired subject, its flawed.

1. Use makeup
2. Show the zit with pride
3. Photograph someone else

What studio and models? Those are your options if you insist on photographing a model whose blemishes you find unsurpassable. There are as many options here as there is bitching. Photograph the model with sidelighting putting the blemish in complete shadow. Have the subject playfully place their finger on the blemish. Learn something new instead of relying on the same old crutches. Incorporate the lessons learned into a workflow that does include Photoshop. It's a "challenge," and last time I checked, no challenge here is compulsory.

I dont have a problem with the no skin retouching blemeish removal so much as the shoot jpg/no crop/no rotate/no adjusting contrast/sharpening/white balance.

minimal is long due for a minor update to allow us to do "some" post work.

dont waste a good challenge topic like human portrait with the garbage minimal ruleset.

I for one am excited about this challenge. I think it is a good exercise in getting things right it camera. Excited enough to renew my membership for it. So I guess some will love it others will hate it. Always seems to be how it goes.

how exactly do you apply software filters before a photo is taken?

Not before, but rather during.

Every image your camera takes is processed. As the file gets processed to a JPEG, things like the white balance setting will be applied. Same can be said for software filters used during the act of taking the photo. The filter is part of the processing from the sensor to the JPEG.

i understand but in all seriousness...nah, its not worth it. if minimal isnt worth my time to shoot in it sure as hell isn't worth my time discussing.
