Travelling through the Northern French WW1 battlefields one finds many memorials in the middle of crop fields. As it was ANZAC day back home we visited this one was for an Australian regiment. |

OMG - I am 8 weeks behind! I started this with very good intentions. So much going on that I have fallen way behind. I finally found work, and am finally moving (yes moving yet again) into a new rental home (been staying with family) on May 16th. With all the family drama, new job, and now moving I have not been getting my camera out. I promise to catch up soon! You may get all the weeks caught up at once lol. I'll be just a 5 minute drive to the zoo where I have an annual membership to.
Expect lots of animal shots. |

04-Week 2
Behind almost a month in posting - I have the photos, just haven't gotten around to looking through, processing, posting. Had a 10-day trip and two grand-daughter weekends in there and those kind of do a job on my time :) Plus, the trip spanned weeks 3 and 4 and I was also considering photos for the FS and challenges from it - didn't want to post something here that I wished later I'd saved :) Anyway, here I go.

You're not the only one with this problem. For me it's easier to post a photo every day than to post a photo every week. |

. . .
I found the doodad that holds my camera to the tripod. The first one is an experiment hanging the bracelet from a lampshade. Interesting idea, wrong lampshade. Setup a little tabletop studio in the laundry room. There are some shelves I can use to clamp lights, just above the dryer. The whachamacallit of white paper is a roll of white gift paper. I'm making a list of stuff to buy.

04-Week 3
April 16-23 found me in Chicago with a brief side trip into Michigan to see an elderly aunt, so I had lots to pick from for Week 3. We arrived in Chicago on Thursday evening. The weather was as advertised: sunny and beautiful Friday, sunny and a bit colder Saturday, rainy the next couple of days; so we decided to go to the botanical gardens Friday. We were in time for the last of the early bulb flowers - hyacinths, daffodils - but a bit early for the tulips. However, the magnolia trees were in full bloom, throughout the gardens, and just plain beautiful. Here's a closeup of a bud and a wider view of one of the small lakes. I just loved the "out in the woods" feel and look of this part of the gardens - in sharp contrast to the carefully manicured look of the Japanese garden which was equally beautiful.

04-Week 4
When we got back from our trip, it was time to drive down to pick up our delightful grand-daughter for the weekend. I posted this story and picture on my FB page on April 25:
While I was making supper last night, Tessa was sitting at the table coloring and cutting and looked out the kitchen window. The flowering plum had gone from practically bare branches to full bloom in the two weeks since she was here last. She noticed and asked, "What's wrong with the tree, Grandma?" I suggested she go out and check. She ran out but could not quite reach the lowest branch to really check it out. So she came in for her stool. I sent David out with her scissors, and he helped her cut a few sprigs off for a bouquet. She came back in and I gave her a small vase with water in it. She lovingly put each sprig in, talking to it as she did. It sat on the table while we ate supper. At once point she put her silverware down and said to the bouquet, "How are you doing, flowers?" Then she answered herself, "Fine, Mama Tessa." Then she laughed and laughed and repeated to us, "Mama Tessa. Mama Tessa. I'm Mama Tessa."

I went to Home Depot & got 2 Husky LED work lights. I thought I might need diffusers of some kind, but discovered I could control the reflections of the lights with camera angle. The crystals sparkle in the light very nicely but of course I can't capture that in a still shot.
Do you think the reflections of the orange crystals on the dark crystals is good or bad?
Any comments are welcome.

Am submitting this rather sheepishly given my lack of contribution since, well, months ago! Hopefully you'll allow me back. I do have a few random weeks in between that I have found time to edit at last..... May I be cheeky and add a few retrospectively?

Lighting and set-up are good, I think the reflections are OK.
I wonder if you could use some additional lights (flashlight, laser pointer?) to light the big crystals from the back and make them look even more transparent.
Also, I wonder if a star filter (or aperture control) might help give you that sparkle ... |
