Comet Lovejoy. It was a nice night for viewing here, about 60f and clear skies.
This was done with an old Nikkor 180mm ED Ai, 70's vintage.

I know I may be jumping ahead..but this is one of my ultimate favorites, I couldn't wait to post.

Now, for those that have seen Jurrasic Park, well, this is my eagle version.. if looks could kill and I was any smaller, I think I would have been that birds meal, this eagle was for out for a kill.. I was lucky enough to have captured this one... I was in a different area where these birds stick around year round and that is not afraid of us being there. Only thing I do not like about this photo is the shadow of the branch falling onto this eagle and I really did not want to spend hours cloning it out, I really wanted to submit it for the free study, but the shadow just ruined it for me. The look, I think, is literally "to die for"

Oh, This was taken with my Sony point and shoot, NOT DLSR...I was trying for some HDR shots but failed to take any LOL

Here is my week 3..

Week 2

It's been really really cold and snowy lately. At 11 1/2 years old, Beanie is not impressed as her expression shows.

Week2

Thanks for all the advice & suggestions. I'm drinking the champagne now & watching the SEC Oregon vs Ohio game. Go Ducks!
Tomorrow I will try working with the (empty) flat black champagne bottle.

Week 3 - With Grandkid

My husband and I have our three year old granddaughter every other weekend and love it. After an incredibly long cold spell, it was windy but tolerable today so we were able to take her to the park. Of course we chose the sunniest park and midday. I remembered reading tips for portraits in these conditions in the link Wendy shared recently, so I set my camera to spot metering and waited for my chances - when they were looking away from the sun. Very happy with the lighting.

Week Three: Fracture Zone

Trying out the monopod with the 200mm lens for the first time, and on a bitter cold day to boot. Frostbite City!

Week two: a colorful rooster.

I don't know what kind of chicken this is, very colorful though.
It was very difficult to focus on the eyes. :)

Week 3

The champagne bottle. I rigged up a little hook thingie so I could hang the bracelet at an angle.

This one was more difficult to get anything I thought I could post. I suspect my problem is with the light, so my next effort will be to figure out a way to get soft bright light with the stuff that I've got. That crystal seashell is faceted & reflects the light in wierdly unpredictable ways, I suspect if you don't know what it is, it would be difficult to guess.

Tried again after the sun went down. Placed it in a metal dish & turned out all the lights but one 'daylight' lamp.

I know I've got a long way to go. But, it's still only January. Thanks for your comments!
