Bruce Hall, Paul Eckert, Kurt Weston, Rosita McKenzie - all are blind photographers.
Your challenge is to be blindfolded, take a few steps using only your other senses to determine what to shoot, and take your best shot. Let's play fair and make sure we are not peeking.

Time Magazine did an article a while back to give you some reference to these amazing photographers.

As there is absolutely no way to determine if anyone is playing by the rules, you will likely only get a bunch of really bad images, or ones that will make others question whether they followed the rules.

Do you really want the shitstorm that came with this to happen again?

guess I missed her post. I do think it would be a lot of fun, and yes I realize some folks may not play by the rules but oh well. Those of us who do can be proud of our accomplishments.

I do a lot of what I consider blind photography while riding my bike. I'm not looking at the viewscreen, so it's a combination of experience, planning and a lot of blind dumb luck. Most of them are throwaways, but I usually get a keeper or two.

Not going to ride my bike with a blindfold on though. Not for DPC.

I agree - never again. If you were not here just trust us.

I don't usually look. I'll do it again.

Looking back though that challenge- there were some incredible shots, more specifically, incredible street shots.

Shooting street blind has much more cred, is much more believable than shooting landscapes blind.

I get it that some of the people who were here for this remember it well, but this was before my time on the site, and SINCE then we have had a similar challenge "take 100 pics blind and submit your best" was the general take on the challenge; there were a lot of iffy pictures, but really, it's just about framing - you're not blindfolding yourself for the entire trip to a place, having no idea where you are or what is in front of (behind) you. Close your eyes, take some pictures, move your body/the camera around, snap a LOT of pictures in an area that will result in the potential for a shot you will be happy with, then move on to another. When done, use your eyes to PICK THE BEST of them.

I see ABSOLUTELY NO REASON for people to get frustrated with this because some members were jerks during a challenge entry before. Suck it up. Participate if you like, vote if you like, comment if you like, leave the "I'm taking my ball and going home" attitude parked under the back step, have fun with challenges and do your best to meet the criteria. If you end up with trash images upon review, go out and take more - you're the one who put yourself in the place where you were sure you could get good images. Try again, move the camera around more slowly taking more pictures, open up your lens to it's widest possible view, crop into a better framing and straighten the horizon after.

What would be TRULY impossible would be to say "complete this challenge 100% blind. have someone deliver you to a destination blindfolded, do not review your images, have another person assist you with that, then have them help you load it into a PP tool, in which they will assist you with editing by giving verbal clues; at no point can you see the image until it is uploaded to stay on the site. **additional rule - once an image is uploaded, it cannot be removed from submission**".

For something off the wall like that "shoot and edit as if you were blind", yes, seeing a pristine sunset picture would set off alarms; but for the love of all that is decent, back off with forming the lynch mob over a GOOD suggestion.

I didn't take this to be the same as that challenge at all. I assumed that minimal editing was implied as the challenge was inspired by actual blind photographers, who I can't imagine do much work in PP (which the OP has since confirmed by updating her post to show basic editing). The inability to crop or edit alone would make the challenge results very different. Walking somewhere and taking a look around and then basically shooting without looking through the viewfinder is not really the same thing. I would think street photographers do this all the time.

In any case, just my opinion, no "take my ball and going home" attitude was given and I certainly am not heading up any lynch mobs.

Actually, I would be curious as to what different people actually thought the challenge might have implied when it came to how the picture was to be taken and edited. I certainly took it as something very restrictive, but then, maybe that was just me.

Basic editing allows cropping and almost unlimited (global) color/tone adjusting or shifting.

Makes sense to go for Minimal in this one. "Basic" editing is basically obsolete now, I doubt we'll be seeing it again in DPC...

I thought Basic was gone, as I have only seen Minimal, Advanced and Expert in quite a while. Of course, I don't check in here all the time, but that was my assumption based on what I have observed. Thus I assumed Minimal even when the OP said Basic.
