As often happens, this is quite ambiguous. Does this mean complexity of the composition, or of the subject?
09/25/2004 02:55:22 PM · #2
that's kind of a complicated question.
09/25/2004 02:56:19 PM · #3
I take it too mean the subject should be complex -- but if more than one subject it could very well be the composition that makes the collective subject complex.

why not submitting snapshot of paper with math mambo-jumbo ? LOL.

Britannica, I took a shot that made me think of how complicated (complex) some things in our lives are.

Try buildings with bizarre architecture, unique constructions.. I think that anything with a lot of rods & bars could represent complexity :-)

Perhaps there is no 'right' approach? Perhaps both are acceptable?

I choose a complex issue as opposed to a literal interpretation. I am already thinking that I will recieve either a very good score or a very low score with everyone commenting that it doesn't meet the challenge. I may change my submission yet.

Sure, then half the voters give you a 1, and the other half score you according to your photo. ;)

could the rubix cube not be simplicity or complexity??? considering math is fairly easy why not consider other objects???
09/25/2004 04:07:22 PM · #9
In the end, the most complex subject would be women, but those feminists with their ego trips will rate those photos poorly for sure..

Said in a humoristic spirit, no offence please :o)

i thought of a rubix cube too, as did my girlfriend when i asked her if she had any ideas. lets see if any rubix cubes show up in this challenge.

I _almost_ submitted a picture of my girlfriend, but opted for my current submission instead.

That's funny stuff!

i was going to use the rubix cube also. I think we will see a couple in the challenge.

I was going to do a rubix cube woman supported by rods, with a math eqation backround, but couldn't get the depth of feild and lighting.

I would LOVE to see that shot!

I’m trying not to go for the literal meaning which will probable result in either plenty of 2, 3 and 4 or 7, 8, 9. It’s very hard to judge peoples reaction.

I have seen some wonderful photos that meet the challenge dead on and they still have scores of 1, 2 and 3's.

I'm extremely pleased that this challenge has a description that is wonderfully vague, allowing me to take a photo that captures the essence of complexity (whether through composition, subject, technique...whatever).

It also allows me to vote very simply: "Is this a photo that does a great job of capturing 'complexity'?"

I wish all the challenge descriptions where this open! Big smile on my face...

Just take a photo of a woman.

Not that I'm against it -- but that kind of simplifies the impact of the image; doesn't it? :D

---

When I read the subject I immediately thought of the science of complexity; basically, many simple things interacting to form complex patterns, such as the flocking of birds/schooling of fish or the formation of clouds. The trick, I think, is not in finding something complex to shoot, but in finding a shot that shows the complexity in an easily identifiable way -- all while being compositionally sound.

I checked out the thumbnails for the complexity challenge, and I have to say I'm pleased with what I see so far...this will be a great challenge to vote on! It looks like there are a lot of interesting interpretations...

I'm sitting at about 5.3 with no comments so far, but I personally wouldn't rate my photo much higher than that anyhow so I'm happy...

I'm going for my lowest score yet!

there's still wacky foods though...
09/27/2004 08:28:26 AM · #24
i am sitting at just over 6. whoo hoo.
however my touch challenge is in the 4 range.. so it makes up for it.
09/27/2004 08:43:01 AM · #25
Could be my 3rd highest score. Sitting at 6.1220 right now.
