Henry, thank you.

I intend to continue this side challenge. There seems to be some interest since I noticed that for every essay there are a lot of viewers even if they do not leave a comment.
I like reading, I like stories, I like to think that we can take a camera and try and experiment with seeing and thinking.
Thank you Henry but please do not stray. The most important quality of an artist, as history proved, is STUBBORNNESS, producing art from necessity and independently of the number of people applauding or throwing rotten eggs at the art.

For the people who never looked at these essays, here is a link to what we produced so far.

Thank you Henry for your effort.

I have not submitted for a while which is a real shame, considering the good feeling it gives me when I do.

Thank you mariuca for taking over.

I just started to participate but I'm quite motivated to go on
So thank you for your work so far and for waking my interest insteps
And thank you mariuca for taking charge of this side challenge!

I also wanted to thank all members who left such competent comments - insteps, mitalapo, mariuca and rooum - very much appreciated!

Thanks so much Henry for all of the time and effort you have put towards this very worthwhile exercise.

Thank you Mariuca for keeping it going.

Much appreciation for all your time and patient effort Henry, none of it would have happened without you. I have been distracted a lot lately and unfortunately inconsistent in my efforts so I apologise sincerely. Hope to see you back soon with some more great work.

Henry, I'm sad you will not participate any longer, it's been a great exercise (even if I've been a very part time participant). I've thoroughly enjoyed your contribution both as an artist and for the comments.

Thanks Mariuca for your efforts keeping it going. I will try to get back into it at some point during this year.

I am one who enjoys, read, peruses this side challenge even though I have not contributed in awhile.
So it makes me happy that I can continue to learn from this effort. Thank you Henry for getting this started and I hope that, with Mariuca's continuing help and our encouragement, you will stick around.

Wow. So grateful to Henry and Mariuca, EVEN THOUGH I never quite made it, not even in the commenting. (Slow days for me lately).

Taking the torch:
JUNE essay due in a month.

One point from me to all; please think of this side challenge without being intimidated by the word "essay".
The definition of an essay is:
1.
a. A short literary composition on a single subject, usually presenting the personal view of the author.
b. Something resembling such a composition: a photojournalistic essay.
2.
A testing or trial of the value or nature of a thing: an essay of the students' capabilities.
3. An initial attempt or endeavor, especially a tentative attempt.

As a slight diversion some of you may be interested in this year's SoFoBoMo project (link in that thread) -- you may be able to "re-purpose" some of this Summer's efforts. :-)

just posted my July essays - still somewhat unsure if I did it right...
Well, I hope you enjoy watching it

Since I'll be on vacation the next two weeks I won't be able to comment on your essays but I'm going to catch up after returning.

Thanks for the information about the SoFoBoMo project btw

Hope that the Essay/Collection of photographs is still alive. At least that's what I think considering that all of us still take pictures that can be grouped by theme.

Every two months we can add to the essay forum. Next one is planned to be posted on Sept.1
A lot of people are taking vacations so I will open the thread on that day but we can post anytime.

Found a little inspiration. I'll try to post something even if half baked.

Ha, if yours is half baked then mine is raw dough. But I posted it nevertheless ..
At least I tried to tell/show from the beginning to the end this time. Unfortunately there isn't very much substantial to tell.

I do hope somebody will take a look and leave a comment: It can be critical - I can handle that!

The essay SC suffered also from the ubiquitous malaise that affected the entire site recently.
Malaise =a general feeling of discomfort, illness, or uneasiness whose exact cause is difficult to identify

I am equally guilty (not for malaise though) for not finishing anything on time for the November 1 presumed due date.

I suggest we start with new stamina (a word in the news) form January 1.
I personally will prepare something and hope to have playmates in this game.

Any ideas?

Any ideas?

You mean "from" Jan 1, right? "New Year's Resolutions" are notoriously prone to failure -- I suggest picking some other arbitrary/random starting date. :-)

I wish I had more time to do one of these, but thanks for keeping it going ...

Is was,is and always will be ;) We really should start those monthly side challenges again, but that discussion shouldn't be part of this thread.

I have excuses :) always, right?

Travelling during November so hopefully I can manage something by January.
11/02/2016 05:07:38 PM · #223
I don't have any good excuses. I will try my best to have something.
11/02/2016 05:51:14 PM · #224
That sounds good to me!
I'm sanguine that we shall see some interesting photo essays in January!

It doesn't matter which date it will start - there will always be excuses ... too many holiday - not enough holidays... too sunny weather ... weather without sun...But all of us still take pictures - don't we? So why not put them togther and show it here? Let's do it!

Thank you Mariuca for handling the thread

The GeneralE is absolutely right:

Shall we say January 15 or February 1 for posting new photo collections?
