From what the original poster has told me, he understood it. He disagrees, which is fair enough, but didn't infer that I was calling him stupid either. We've talked before and I also figure a fighter pilot can stand a little bit of textual disent.

Why not, as you seem to vote them down anyway. Unless of course you are looking a solid grey square. You didn't think that was boring at all and you gave it a 10. I guess I may try for the blue color on the frames. I may end up with the so-called brown ribbon, but it will get me more 10's than any of the pictures I've submitted so far. |

A blue square would be a whole lot less on topic and consequently score lower. If you have no concept of abstract art, that is fine - but it shouldn't give you the right to just dismiss people who might disagree with your present view of what is or isn't interesting art.
As to how I vote, like everyone else, I'm free to vote on the pictures that have the most impact on me. I didn't realise this was a literalist only site and that minimalism or abstract art was suddenly such a taboo.
God help anyone who tries to enter or like anything approaching pictorialism either, I guess.
Week in week out people bitch and moan about how other's vote. I didn't realise y'all had perfect insight into what someone should score anything. At least I guess we've switched from moaning about low scores on popular pictures to complaining about high scores on unpopular pictures.
Once again no doubt we'll get to the point of recommending that the scoring system should be changed to only have 5 as an option. Then everyone wins.
Perhaps all those who don't pick the top 3 winning pictures every week in the correct order, as there first 3 choices should be banned from voting ? After all - if they don't agree with the popular view, they most be aberrant trolls who should be removed as quickly as possible.
I don't claim I have the perfect voting scheme - so why should all the people who call me out for how I vote suddenly assume they are better ? Why do you assume you have a better view on what a good or bad picture is than I have ? I don't claim I know - but I would at least assume I have the same right as you to an opinion ? But apparently you and others would disagree.

That is a refreshing change ... after this can we have another round of complaining about how the middle-scoring photos never get as many comments as the really good or really bad ones? |

I like it the way it is, me at the bottom and everyone else up there. I am a strong photographer, I hold everyone else up!
I vote, nothings for free! And I sure ain't fit!
Just leave it the hell alone so I can wallow in self-pity for another failed challenge, at least it keeps me amused. Why are there no sharp things here? I want proper crayons, not wax ones! |

1. This is not golf where you have to make the cut to compete.
2. This is not NASCAR where you have to qualify to compete.
3. However this is DPChallenge and everyone is welcome to compete and have fun based on if you are a registered user or member.
I understand what you are saying it may make someone feel bad if they receive the brown ribbon or even come close. But hiding their score would only, IMO, hurt them. I wouldn't want to go to school and not know my GPA because it was lower than a cutoff line the school had set. Do the best you can do, if you allow the voting process and comment to stay the way they are now and apply them you will get better.
If you look at my average I have a LOOOOOOOOOOOOT of improving to do. If I didn't know my score then how would I know how much improvement was needed?
Buying a better camera would probably raise my average by 0.5 or even 1.0 but what WILL improve my average the most is learning from my scores and the comments everyone has kindly taken the time to post. If I score low, so be it. I will pick up my camera and try harder.

| Well, you guys have convinced me. I am now going to try for a brown ribbon too. It is apparent that there is more reason to go for the brown instead of the blue. After all, look at all of the fuss being made. Look at all of the attention. I want a brown ribbon so bad now that I can taste it. |

Then Wacky Foods is the perfect challenge to exhibit your talents!
You can always just tell people you consistently finish somewhere around the 95th percentile -- very few people will bother to think that DPC uses an "inverted" ranking system : ) |
