we get Cinco De Mayo and July 4th challenges, as well as several others throughout the year. Lets have another thread to suggest we do a Canada Day challenge. July 1st.
Take an image of something that makes you think "Canada" or "Canadian". It can be a donut, a person smiling and waving, a maple leaf, some dude in his backyard drinking a beer with white tube socks and a pair of sandals on. Whatever it is that makes you think of Canada when you see it.
It doesn't have to be about fireworks or big parades, that's not what we're all about, and it's going to be overdone 3 days later with the July 4th challenge anyways.

Sounds more like half a day.

I claim Pamela Anderson or Shania Twain. Somebody else can take Celine Dion.

I just want it noted to the powers that be (or may not be, as we never actually interact with Langdon...) that this is a serious challenge request and it has been made several years running.
It's not our fault that our day of National Celebratory Pride happens to come slightly before Your day, but seriously - look at all the sunset/backlit/pesudo-term-for-backlit challenges in a row; you can handle giving a canada day and independance day challenge close together, even if the independance day one happens to be a speed challenge starting the 3rd and ending the 5th...

I think such a challenge would be beautiful. :)

If this challenge happens I'm going to take a picture of a piece of ham and title it "Bacon".

+ 1 for Canada Day, even though I'm not Canadian. it would be neat to dig into a little bit of Canadian culture to see what non Canadians can come up with.

"dig" is certainly a good word for such a challenge.

Geese, Moosehead beer and bright pink mints. Although maple leaves would prolly dominate.

About time we gave a shout out to Canada.
What a good idea for a challenge, eh?

Here is a "typical" Canadian type cast image. Only thing missing is a beer bottle.
Used this in the Bill Board Challenge.
Actually sat on Googles front page for a while if you Googled "Canadian Navy"

just a few fun facts:

* Until 1982, Canada Day was known as “Dominion Day”.

* Kanata is the St. Lawrence-Iroquoian word for "village" or "settlement."

* Canadians consume more macaroni and cheese than any other nation.

* Hockey and lacrosse are Canada’s national sports, but ice hockey, football and baseball are Canadians favourite spectator sports.

* The National Flag of Canada came into being in 1965 to replace the Union Jack.

* In “Flander’s Fields” is a poem written by World War I Canadian physician Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae.

there are a lot of google links you can find with some accurate (and inaccurate) stereotypes about canadians.
i just spent the last 20 minutes reading a few of the articles and nodding in agreement. Mostly they all agree that we do not actually say "a boot" when we say "about" - that is something most of us only do to humor people asking about the stereotype; that we love our coffee, kraft dinner and maple syrup (some people would sit down to that as a meal and say 'yummy' - and for those who have never used REAL maple syrup to replace sugar in your coffee, you're missing out, and i don't mean aunt jamima stuff, i mean real, from the tree and boiled down syrup).

many of us grew up on the CBC snippets from Heritage Canada - check out the logdriver video

Add my vote to those who agree this would be a wonderful challenge.

Any pictures of Justin Bieber or Bieber paraphernalia should be DNMC. He belongs to the U.S. now ;)

One of the highlights of my travel across Canada was finding this cartoon in a museum, I think in Winnipeg ...

I tried to see what that cartoon was about, but I didn't seem to follow it very well. I don't get it. :(

A factory is making a bunch of smog that makes the old fella sick so he goes to the Dr. The Dr. prescribes pills which the old fella picks up at a pharmacy, the end of the cartoon shows that what the factory is making is the very pills that the old guy got.

As one of the older members, I still remember when Canada helped get our people, who escaped capture, out of Iran.

Old kindnesses are not forgotten. Let's have Canada Day, eh!

I remember that, and all the folks that were taken in when all the flights were diverted during 911.

Oh, regarding that Iran escape, that movie made about it sure didn't give Ambassador Taylor much credit did it?

I keep reading this as "Canada Dry" and then wonder what a challenge full of soda cans would look like. :)

mmmmm...Ginger Ale. But I prefer Seagrams. Do you think the voters would mark me down for that?

This is one soft drink you can make yourself.

Finely mince/chop/grate some fresh ginger root and simmmer it for 30 minutes or so, maybe a 2" piece in a cup of water. Strain and squeeze out as much liquid as possible (run this through a coffee filter if you need it really clear). Add sugar and boil to the consistency of a thin syrup. When cool, mix to taste with plain seltzer or club soda. Refrigerated it keeps pretty much indefinitely, if you can make it last that long.

You can also slice the ginger 1/8-1/4" thick and boil it down in the sugar-water to make candied ginger ...
