I was voting in the latest challenge and I think I voted on a teammate's image, which is a no-no. So is there a way to remove the vote and move it to the unrated pile?

I know that I voted on on two teammates images, because those teammates didn't post to our thread. I hope that's okay, since I had no idea I was doing it.

Sorry, but I think you are only allowed to unvote on your unbirthday. Check with the white rabbit (or the musical bear) to be sure.

I think it would be manners if your team mates would at least tell you what they entered.. no communication is in very bad taste an not in the spirit of the contest IMO.

I'm sure at some point Bear Music or one of the others will explain further.

On some challenges even with early communication, it can be tough. For instance if you know a team mate did a dandelion shot of symmetry, that would leave you guessing at quite a few shots if you didn't see the final product.

That is correct, the vote scrubber won't count it against your teammate.

If I read this correctly, you voted on just another image... you had no connection to it, or at least none that you were aware of at the time. Hence your vote wouldn't have been influenced by any team issues.

I don't see a problem with this at all.

The only practical way to "unvote" is to stop voting shy of the 20% threshold.

As I've advised before, I think the best course in a case like this is to bring a high vote down to a 5 or so. Any vote of 5 or less, just let it stand. Tell your teammates, in your team communication thread, about the boo-boo, so there's a record of it. It's not likely to be a problem, ever.

For an invalid, you sure are quick and cogent. Thanks.

So do 1s get thrown out automatically?

And what I've done in the past since this has happened to me, too - even once when the teammate had posted the image to our team thread and I'd seen it but then I forgot and just voted automatically as I worked my way through - is to say what has happened in the team thread and ask the entrant to let me know his or her score a few hours before roll-over. Then I change (if necessary) the score to be as close as possible to what the final score is likely to be.

What Beetle said... unless you're on Team 1 this week, in which case what Mike said.

I have absolutely no problem with the vote, its the lack of communication from your team mate that concerned me. :)

No they don't. I'm just trying to help out our team. ;-)

That makes the most sense to me as well. I've been on teams where for some reason or another a photo didn't get shared ... it happens. Also, even when team play isn't going on, many people that participate frequently can hazard a good guess, if they tried, on whose photo they're voting on quite frequently (subject matter, people in the shot, subject style, etc...). As long as the vote was cast fairly it should stand.

I'm on board with all that as well, but what if you accidentally vote on a teammates image that you DID see? I haven't, but almost did on accident (keyboard voting). There really needs to be a way to remove a vote, but barring that, I guess the honor system will be fine.

If you didn't know it was theirs until after you voted, I'd leave it... It was an honest score. To me, the only issue is knowing it's their image and THEN voting.

However, I'd say nam gave the best advice on "unvoting"... find out what the average is and change your vote to that so that your votes effect is minimized.

Unless you're Team 1, like scalvert said...

EDIT: iz have bad grammar

Quote above enhanced to make a point.

If having a "record" of the action is something to consider, then does that mean the Team thread is viewable by DPC Site Council members?

If that is the case, then the absence of the photo (and any related discussion) in the Team thread would also be a "record" that the photo was not shared or discussed, in which case the OP should have no concern about improper voting etiquette.

... like Shane said ...

Nah, the record's just for the team. So there's no confusion. Site council doesn't have access to PM threads.
