Which one of my entries will score lower. Smoke or Mirrors?

I think Mirrors, but so far they are both neck to neck and it's gonna be a really close one.

Winners I'll buy a beer next time we see each other! Losers buy me one!

Critiques wanted as if you knew my photo.

(Just make it up!)

I can safely say smoke. Why do I know this? because I am going to score last in mirror. In smoke I am in the non descript score of 5.6. How do I get my beer?

I'm absolutely disgusted. I can't believe you would have the gall to even post those photographs here. These should be removed immediately.
They have absolutely nothing to do with the challenge and are distasteful, unrespectful, inhumane and furthermore, you should have chosen a greater depth of field.

You have to guess which of mine will score lower! and critiques are needed to score a beer! :-D

Eric. This is a tough decision to make. I really like both of your shots and I hope they are both doing well. My personal favorite is your smoke photo. The composition reminds me of that feeling you get in your legs when you try to go to sleep but you haven't gotten enough use out of them that day. To me, this conflict between rest and urgency absolutely makes this shot. Your mirror entry, on the other hand, is entirely (in my opinion) about the confusion upon entering the afterlife, although this might not be clear to most viewers or even intended by you, the photographer. It is this interpretation that allows me to see the details with greater clarity. Based on the subjective matter of the mirror entry, my bet is on Mirrors scoring lower. Looking forward to the beer.

I can't believe you would say that! Don't you see the nature of these images? I am an ARTIST!

Afterbirth has to be treated with dignity to be called art, I don't care how many mirrors and how much smoke you use.

It's only metaphorical and hints at suggestion.

So far, only 1 person has a chance at a beer.

Ericlimon: Yes, yes. I know your shot. That is the one that you chose to extend the exposure and rendered the smoke into a different texture. Well, my lowest vote is five and that is what I gave it. In the mirrors, you inadvertantly did the self portrait that broke the plate glass. This one has potential. lol

JPR - That is so insiteful, yes I agree about that feeling that my smoke image produces. Do you think the warmth was there? I'm still confused about my mirror entry. I don't actually know how it happened... Oh well. Thanks for the excellent feedback. It is sure to help me on my journey into the deeper realms of photography.

Smoke - your lighting is exceptional and it is nice to see a subject with a sense of humor....cropping is a little to tight but all around a solid entry...(8) I'll be disappointed if this isn't top 10..good luck

Mirror - is your camera broken or is it just you? What the hell were you thinking...? "Thank you please come again" (3)

LOL - this is too funny....ummmmmm beeeeeeer

Wow,
do you all think my mirror image is that bad?
Surely some of you see the truth in what I was getting at?
More comments are welcome!

(I'll post my "out takes" later- then you can compare them)

I have to disagree with the majority here. Although your smoke entry is technically very sound, IMO it lacks true fiery passion, that I feel in your mirrors entry. I think some may be missing the boldness, the power, the beauty of the shot, perhaps mislead by the abstract, yet genius presentation. As I gaze into it's gripping ferocity, I feel as though transcended to a place of higher enlightenment. The subtle, yet provocative lighting, mesmorizing colors, lines and shadows, all composed in a veritable maelstrom of emotional splendor, a truly spectacular rollercoaster ride for the senses. I am left with a profound sense of........

I think the competition is fierce this time! Maybe we'll have to add Tan and Ecru ribbons (for next-to-last, etc.).

Not that I am trying to get a free beer or anything ....

But I just went and gave every photo in mirrors a 10 and every photo in smoke a 1.

I think you're smoke one will be lowest ;)

Eeeeppp!!!!! Some of us mere mortals don't recognise colours not found on a snooker table. Brown I can cope with, but Tan and ... Ecru???????

Any othe comments or suggestions on my two entries? Really looking for insiteful critiques here!

I think they would have both done well (at least low 6 range) but for the fact that you entered both of them in the smoke challenge. I think this does not bode well for your mirror entry as there is no hint of any smoke (how would you get smoke that far up there anyway?)

Don't worry, they're just lighter browns. Technically, Ecru is the color of undyed, unbleached linen ... and is a popular word in crossword puzzles. I have red-green color-blindness myself, so I see lots of browns ... : )

Am I missing something here? How do people know which photos are yours? I thought one of the purposes of this site and the challenges was to be judged on your photograph, not your personality.

I believe all those critiques are given sight unseen ... : )

Aahh...Eric's photos are subtle and need to be studied for a long time before you see what's underneath the surface. Give it some time. It will soon be clear.
