Well, here we are again, the start of another week of clicking and clicking just to upstate my scores... even though each time I do it, I am continuously disappointed at my score... I still have not completely recovered from the humor challenge. For humor I was sure I had something special. While it was my highest scoring photo ever, I still could not break that darned 6.0 mark, much less win the ribbon i thought I had in reach... I am pretty sure I will not break that this week either, as I forced myself to make my submissions this week, even though I knew they would not fair well... sigh... at least I will have a score to click and update... I hate going a week without being able to do that!!... anyway, a few diary entries ago I noted that I thought perhaps Rackat had joined Master Setzler and the other darkside photographers and sold her soul for fame and fortune... it only makes sense, she keeps winning and winning! well it appears my suspicions have been confirmed! Rackat must be with the darkside now... for proof all one needs to do is look at her average score received! she has an average of 6.66!!! pure evil I tell you! still though, her photos are amazing... I must continue to resist the temptation and spell the others have fallen under.. no ribbon is worth that! if I keep my chin up, keep taking pictures, perhaps, maybe, just maybe, one day I will break that 6.0 mark and maybe even get a ribbon! wish me luck diary! I will need it! until next time

Well, I've broken 6 twice, and it was a great feeling both times. AND I did it with my old camera, that stupid polaroid. Now that I have my new camera, my scores have improved in that they're consistently over 5... but no 6s yet :(. I spent the first 24 hours of this challenge either exactly on 5 or below it, which was scary, but now I've gotten back up towards 5.1. Such a relief!!! I never want to see another score in the 4s again, ever!

This thread interests me because I am new here and have a photo in the current square challenge. I have no idea what to expect in terms of votes or how I should be going about voting. Do people tend to vote things low and only give out one 10 if any? I found myself giving a few 10's, more 9, more 8's, etc. From what you say, 6 is the golden number. What does that usually equate to, top 25 or so? oh, and why don't we win money?! :)

How you score is very individual, and entirely up to you. From lots of discussions in the forums, it seems that for everyone who scores high, there are people who score low, etc. Choose a system that feels right and expresses how you feel about the photos you're looking at. It'll take a few goes before you're comfortable, and will probably change in subtle ways over time.

That depends on the challenge. Scoring can be higher or lower for some challenges than others, and there are varying numbers of submissions. It's just that over time, unless you're a brilliant photographer, you'll find that it's hard to break 6, and when you do it feels reaaaaaaaaallllly good :).

There is the possibility of prizes in the future if you pay for full membership :P. You get what you pay for.

what i find a little more compelling than the actual numerical score is the rankings, how close to the top of the pile you get. this makes up for the fact that some people score high, others low. for instance, you could score a five point something or another, and come in within the top 25 of 200 entries. to me, that means that the photo's in the top 12%, a B+ or A photo.
getting a high score is neat (i imagine), but the numbers themselves aren't in any way scientific.

I was wondering about that myself!! It's funny but I felt the pull of the Dark Side myself this week. I had two 6 plusses last week but couldn't quite pull off a ribbon. My "Doors" shot this week I felt had real potential then it started off all day Monday nearer to 4 than to 6!! However, today it pulled up over 6. Is the the work of the Evil Angels?!? Are they trying to entice me to go that final step to get another ribbon?? I MUST RESIST!
