set the timer and run out of the room.
Minimal editing and  Special Rule: you have to upload the image without ever looking at it so you will be as surprised as voters when you see that your subject has mooned the camera in your absence. |

No, I'm saying one could set up their subject in their studio (or whatever) just as usual, then step out of the room and trigger the shutter, somewhat like what x-ray techs do ... there'd be nothing distinctive about the photo itself which would indicate whether or not the photographer was next to the camera when the shutter opened.
Now if you wrote the description to specify that the subject must be in a different room from you and your camera ... it would be a whole 'nother ballgame, and maybe that x-ray equipment would come in handy after all ... ;-) |

I still like the one I got from reading Paul's ( blindjustice) description, that the camera with photographer (or without if it's a self portrait) are in a different room than the subject. Anyway, that's just me.
ETA. I guess it can be interpreted in any way, as long as it matches the "Subject in another room" theme.

I was trying to narrow it down to be specific without creating a DNMC nightmare challenge.
Technically you could have someone stand in a doorway, 2 feet into another room, and take a picture from 3 feet away, without there ever being the "photographer's" original room in the picture at all.That would risk a dnmc for sure- under the loosest of rulesets. So the spirit of the challenge, would be that the walls, portal, whatever piece of the "photographer's room" would be visible or apparent, to give frame, shape and context to the "subject in another room"
The reason I thought this would be challenging, is, you can have some drastically different lighting in two different rooms, plus the framing/obscuring effect of walls, doors, windows, etc.

| I like this as a 'framed by a portal' type challenge - but I also like others' suggestions for capturing a subject while you're absent from a room. Kind of reminds me of Warhol's Screen Test stills. (Wiki). Hmm, actually maybe that could be a separate 'in the style of' challenge... |
