Is this photo fabricated? It should have been under what we call here advanced editing

Dunno, not sure what makes you think it is.

Looks totally doable in advanced. Is it a trick question? Is it your photo?

No I am not... If the Elbow is where you say it is the arm must be connected to mid chest or has a third bone

This guy got 120.000 dollars working the rules

For such huge price they should request the original photo...
03/20/2014 06:27:05 AM · #13
To me, it seems like the loose fabric of the sleeve just makes it look out of place. But, yeah, if I'm HIPA, I'd require the photographer to submit the original file.

looks fake to me..

Arm does look a bit weird i guess.
03/20/2014 07:54:23 AM · #16
A fake or not, it should not have won an award of this magnitude due to an abnormal detail as this.

I think that that arm was almost certainly added in post processing for three reasons:

1) The location at which is appears to lead to the body is well below the shoulder. Although that could have been obscured by the loose clothing, I still think that it was placed lower so that the hand could be in the vicinity of the writing while not blocking the teacher's face.

2) The exposure on the sleeve appears to be significantly different than the rest of the teacher's body (except his face). Minor, yes, but still a possible clue.

3) One of the biggest indicators and what has been overlooked so far is the position of the body. When a person is reaching out in front of and higher than their head, they tend to turn their body so as to extend their reach. This teacher must have an abnormally long arm to reach that far with his body turned towards us.

At first I thought that the scene could very well could have been just what the photographer presented viewers. However, I now agree that the arm was added in post processing.

And possibly the writing as well, IMO. I don't see how chalk can write so cleanly on a daubed wall like that one...

The judges really screwed up on that one eh? I don't like the picture all that much regardless of the poor photoshop job, it's too obviously contrived IMHO.

A pity if it's 'shopped, because it's quite a beautiful image. Incidentally, were there editing rules for this contest? If it allowed this sort of editing, then the only crime is that the arm was not done as well as it could have been.

From what I've read there were specific rules disallowing this exact kind of manipulation.

BTW Not to be too much of a brown-noser but I've seen dozens of your photos that I like better than this one and thousands of photos on this site that I like better. But that's just me.
