Hi. I have a Fuji S5000 and I want to get some new lenses. I am a total novice and don't understand much about adapters and lenses and the such. I presently have the camera, an adapter ring that says "FinePix Adapter Ring AR-FX5 55mm" and then another thin ring on the end of that which says "55 <-> 52 Made in Japan". The lens that comes on the camera says "10x Optical Zoon f=5.7 - 57mm". I also have 2 lenses, a 2x telephoto and a wide angle lens. I also have 3 filters. I am wanting something which I can get really good zoom with so I can get some super macro shots. I also plan to buy some sort of canon slr (probably 10D) next year, could I get any lenses I can keep and use with it? I know I can get a 3x telephoto and a fisheye with macro, but I want one of those long lenses with excellent zoom! :) My main question is, Can I get another adapter (or use my present one) that will fit sigma lenses on my Fuji S5000 but will also in turn fit my future canon?

To answer your main question, highly doubtful.

Prosumer cameras simply aren't built or meant to use SLR lenses. The mechanics are just all wrong. Having said that, there *are* some great Macro lenses and telephoto lenses available that fit on the Finepix adaptor ring, you just have to search for them, or ask someone for a catalog or something at the store you bought your camera at.

Hope that helps a little.

I bought my camera off ebay and the only lenses I can find that are listed with the Fuji S5000 is the fisheye and the 3x telephoto. Surely there is an adapter that will fit between mine and the better lenses? hopefully.... :(

Most of the lens used on SLR cameras have focusing and zoom mechanisms built into them. These would not work on your camera. It has it's own focus and zoom systems built into it and will not mate with SLR lenses. Probably the best you can get are the ones offered by Fuji. There are third party lenses available on eBay and elsewhere but generally they are not as good. I paid $100 for a 3x teleconverter for my camera but the chromatic abberation is so bad that I don't use it. A very good teleconverter you could probably use would be the 1.7x Olympus TCON-17. The aftermarket wide angles tend to have poor image quality around the edges. For macro work you may like the effects available with diopters, or close up lenses, which are often sold in sets of three that can be combined.

Thanks for the help. I tried to do a search online for my brand of lenses but I couldn't find one single site that sold them. I got my camera in an ebay package deal and I think I may have crappy lenses. Also my lenses are so small compared to some of the the other lenses, I like the bigger ones, makes me feel more professional LOL.. I think what I am looking for is added focal length. When I use my telephoto lens it does boost the zoom capability a little, but the photo quality suffers greatly. Anyway.. just wanted to add the photo of my lenses and bump this thread to ask if anyone had specific links to anymore lenses I could buy that would fit my camera. Thanks!

Only thing I have heard of for the fuji are macro filters.

Go to the www.dpreview.com fuji forum, they will be able to help you.

Well not buy a lense, but just order a S5000 to play with, should be here right after my b-day the 20th. Since the 3800 I'm using is a loner..think My father-n-law wants it back lmao.

Only had it a few months lol?

Hi Dana,

Your S5000 already has 10x optical zoom, but if you're still not satisfied with it, most S5000, S7000, or S602 owners either use Fuji's TL-FX9 1.5x TC or Olympus TCON-17 1.7x. Others also use Raynox's DCR1850 and the new Raynox DCR-2020. You can check the prices at adorama.com.

For the wide-angle lenses, you can choose among the Fuji WL-FX9 0.79x or Oly's WCON-0.7x or several WC of Raynox.

Fuji's as well as Oly's lenses have a 55mm thread, so you can use your AR-FX5 55mm Adapter Ring, while Raynox converter lenses have a 52mm Filter Thread so you will be needing a 55mm-52mm Adapter Ring.

I suggest you either go with Fuji's or Oly's lens converter. I'll be getting one for myself too. And I'll go for the Tcon-17 since it has good reviews.

Here's some link for you:

Fuji TL-FX9 1.5x Telephoto Lens

Fuji WL-FX9 0.79x Wide Angle Lens

Olympus TCON-17 1.7x Teleconvertor

Olympus WCON-0.7x Wide Angle Lens

Raynox DCR-1850 Pro 1.85x

Raynox DCR-2020 Pro 2.2x
