How to tell if your addicted to DPC confessions of an addict.

1. You check your score 30 minutes before _your_ update time and wait!
2. You remain on the site from one update to the next writing silly things in the forums or updating your profile.
3. You spend 59 minutes reading other peoples profiles.
4. You change your picture daily and twice on Sunday before the deadline.
5. You stay up late on Sunday night-to heck with work on Monday.
6. You don't sleep well on Sunday nights but wake at the crack of dawn.
7. You get up in the middle of the night and check your score.
8. You read your own comments in the forums and even answer your own questions!
9. You laugh till your sides hurt at funny posts but when you explain them to your spouse they don't think it's funny.
10.Please feel free to add here:

10: You attempt to justify your addiction by having spouses, significant others, and friends "participate" in your pictures.
11: Your camera is permantly attached to your hand.
12: You have dreams about taking the perfect picture only to miss the submission by 2 minutes (much worse than my bathroom in public dreams.)

13: your team at work comes up with more suggestions for each challenge than you do.
14: every time one of your team members comes into your office it's with the question 'how is your shot doing?' and you 'just happen to have dpc open to show them'.

13. You're so ashamed of your addiction that you hide it from your spouse and loved ones. You're afraid they'll organize an 'intervention' to break your habit.

14. You sit down for a quick look at your score/forums after dinner and look up to find that the house is completely dark and everyone's been in bed for hours.

I think you've just reminded me of something with number 14. What time is it? How long have I been sitting here? why are all of the lights off?

i'm not addicted. i have spent the last 20 minutes productively replying to different discussion threads in the forum. in four minutes, my score is updated, and then i'll go to bed.

well, maybe i'll just quickly browse the forums one more time, tweak some more votes, and if it's close to the next score update, i'll wait around for that. and then i REALLY go to bed.

well, maybe i'll just quickly ...

oh heck.

my name's franziska. i'm also addicted. :)

ROTF!!!!
you know you are addicted when:
* you're family says you love the computer too much,
* your friends call to say hello and humor you by immediately asking how your photo is doing - just to get the subject out of the way,
* you read a thread like this and start looking around your house for the spy cameras - (they MUST be talking about me!)
(shall I go on?)

Ditto...Happy Birthday Terry!

Would this be another sign of addiction?

-You've been staring at the computer screen for so long that it takes you 5 minutes to read a 3 line post...even then you don't understand it because the words keep oozing around the screen.

I'm going to bed...after I check a couple more threads, of course.

Happy Birthday, Terry! From one addicted friend to another...
Did you blow out the candles... I mean the ones on the cake, not the ones on the photo on your computer....

You know you are addicted when you keep telling yourself and your loved ones - I'll give up DPC as soon as I average a 10 on a challenge!!!

Wow I must say that I made big progress tonight.
Several people answered me and even used my name!
OK now I believe that ther is no rule against talking to the newbie.
Thanks for the B day wishes.

The day they open the chat room is the day I lose my job.

15. Your family doesn't blink when you use the terms 'mousie' and 'setzler' in the same sentence.

Happy Birthday, Terry.

16. It's your birthday and your family/friends want to take you out for a nice dinner at a great restaurant but you say that you have work to do and need to take a raincheck (work=hanging around the dpc)

Terry, is it really your birthday or is this one of those bar talk overtures in an attempt to get oldtimers to speak to a newbie??? just joking. :)

I think we need a DPC pledge or our own song.

I have marveled how active the forums are here. Someone starts a new thread in the morning and bingo, by the afternoon there are kazillion replies. Now, I understand: people are just in a holding pattern while waiting for the next score update. lol

Apologies to Don McLean:

A long, long, time ago
I can still remember
When photographers used to make me smile
And I knew if I had my chance
That I'd come here and post some rants
And maybe take some pictures for a while
But Drew and Langdon made me shiver
With each new challenge they'd deliver
Comments causing friction,
Can't fight the addiction.
I can't remember if I cried
When my photo got disqualified
But something touched me deep inside
The day my camera died

So bye-bye to all my free time,
Now I'm always taking pictures
But if not I'm online
Every week I try to keep hope alive,
Saying "is this photo gonna beat five,"
"This week am I gonna break five?"

-Terry
