I want to banter and hackle about photography, hug them, and enjoy sunsets with them.

When is DPC getting a HUG-button?

:)

Hugs are good. We need to keep this idea going. I'm really looking forward to doing another essay next month... and the month after that, juried or not,... in fact, may we set dates so we have time to plan?

Second this but not sure I can create something monthly. Since DPC wasn't designed with photo essays in mind it was fascinating to see how participants displayed their work. A very creative and thought provoking collection. Thanks to those who contributed.

When the judging was over, I was going to start a sign-up thread for a February side challenge. I was thinking that the whole month would be spent "workshopping" photo essays-- building them up, getting comments as they go. And then at the end of the month we'd have some kind of showcase with the "final" photo essays. No judging, no winners, just essays.

What do you think of that?

I think it's excellent. I hope it will be done.

I picked the jurors based on their ability and willingness to express and explain their opinions about why they like images. I had no concern about which essays they would like or not like.

I hope you can refrain from condemning this committee until you've seen the response they create to these wonderful essays. You've already silenced one voice.

Very sad indeed - this has been one of the most positive things done for a while. Thoroughly enjoyable to do and to view

I like this idea. Some like a chance at sharing/testing ideas during the creative phase. Some like sharing ideas after the project is finished. This way, everyone would get a chance to enjoy their favorite part of the process. And with no winner, maybe people could relax a little.

This has been an great way to channel some site energy to artistic ends...

but is there an official consensus on how and when to comment, or more importantly view other peoples' comments, on this wide variety of interesting entries?

Let me start of and refer to this then:

For me this series talks about consistency and variance: You show us bridges, but every bridge is different. Every shot is taken from a different angle with different framing. All shots have a human factor, but in each shot humans do their own unique thing, though they all ignore their bridge, or take it for granted. All images are simple at first glance, but yet I leave them sensing I missed something, and so I feel compelled to come back. Awesome stuff!

Hard for me now to leave just one comment.

We have in this forum 36 essays - it feels like Christmas - 36 packages to unwrap , look, look and listen to and go back and look again and they're all ours and suddenly we are taken from our little place in which we sit quite comfortable and have a narrow angle of view to an immensely wide screen that is vibrant and new.

I appreciate each one of the entries and am still in the process of absorbing this new information and beauty of expression that is seeping from each essay.

What I understood also is that this is a great way to look at our own photos and get a bit of freedom from the constraints of the one week challenge. We might even want to take a particular challenge and enlarge its perspective.
I am planning to repeat the experience and truly hope that as many as DPCers will consider it also.

I have just completed commenting on the entries. Thank you for your participation, I learned a lot through the commenting process. Quite a number of DPC'ers displayed a totally new side of their photographic make-up, which means it was a much-needed expansion of the play-field at DPC. See you at the next Photo-essay thread.

I have just finished making my assessments as well.

What a great journey - thanks to all of you, especially Don, without whom this never would have happened.

I've made mine in the private thread. Don has yet to confirm if we should wait to post here or not.

He may post them as a part of the final thread, or we might post them here. It's really up to Don as far as I'm concerned.

The comments are part of the "results". I will post them when we're all done. Or soon. Whichever comes first.
