So you think, because of the deal you struck with him for first place, that it is in the bag now?

Better watch out, there's more than one way to skin a cutout.

Great choice! Good luck to all jury members, looks like you have to make some difficult choices. And don't worry, you will get complaints afterwards :)

It looks like an awesome project. I'm having some internet issues so I'll have to postpone checking it all out properly. I'd like to play next time.

skinning a cutout -- that would be a cutout of a cutout... ?

Fine. I'll be the one to stir the pot yet again...

So much for a 'diverse judging panel'.

What a crock.

do not quote Cory and attribute it to me. I made no such claim.

Perchance, did you not notice I quoted no one in particular. But paranoia is a wonderful attribute.

Oh I get it. You are quoting nobody but then calling my challenge a crock for not living up to this fictional quote.

And then calling me paranoid for defending myself on my thread.
01/17/2014 01:02:01 AM · #62
Again, I would love for you to read what I actually wrote, instead of making inferences. I did not call this challenge a crock; I called the lack of a diverse jury a crock.

01/17/2014 01:05:12 AM · #63
But who claimed that this challenge would have a diverse jury? Who delivered your crock?
01/17/2014 01:14:08 AM · #64
No, of course you are right. I apologise unreservedly. No one at all promised or even inferred it would be an unbiased jury.

Perhaps that is why Ubique's request went largely ignored.

Bump, because there doesn't seem to be as much interest in this yet as I'd expected/hoped.

It's a very good way for the various 'camps' of photography at DPC to reveal to each other a deeper look at how we each see the world through a lens. One photograph is readily dismissed, or underestimated. But a group of related photographs, attempting to expand on a particular point of view about something, gives some more room for reflection and appreciation. I hope to learn more about the story-telling potential of styles of photography that aren't my own, by my being more or less forced to take a longer look. So please, don't think that this is just an allegedly arty-farty excercise for the posthumous crew. Cory isn't one of those, and he had the brilliant idea to do this. Give it a shot: you may be pleasantly surprised at yourself. I want to see essays by Christophe, Margaret, Pam, Wendy, Jen, and all my photographic 'opposites'. I know (approximately) what my own circle are likely to do. But I'm more eager about appreciating what the people that I don't often connect with are able to do. I hope to be thrilled. And I'll bet that I am, if you will take a shot at it. Thank you.

I didn't intend nor want to be on the jury, Pam. But I made the mistake when posting my own essay of saying I wasn't interested in competing for the prizes, so posthumous put the muscle :) on me to be a jurist. I am perfectly happy to stand down from the jury and just make some comments in my own right. My thinking in the remarks that you quoted was that I'd be helped in broadening my appreciation of different approaches to photography by considering more than a single picture. But I don't want to impose myself on anyone; actually the reverse is what I was looking for.

In fact, on second thoughts, I will stand down from the jury. I don't wish to taint or prejudice something that I hope will become a regular and unifying side challenge at DPC.

I think I object.

Can we possibly observe this more objectively?

--

Pam, as you know, I'm on the jury, and I'm in the private thread. I assure you there is love going for all entrants so far, and while the jury may seem to be a bit cliquish, I think that everyone on the jury is honest and genuine, and will make fair choices.

I think it would be a shame for ubique to not be on the jury, and since I think I should have at least a little say in the matter, my vote is for the jury to remain exactly as it was picked by Don.
01/17/2014 02:22:58 AM · #68
At no point have I said, implied or inferred that anyone on the jury is not honest or genuine. Biased, yes. Leaning more towards a particular style, yes. But dishonest or not genuine, no.

Fwiw, I too think that Ubique should retain his position on this jury. Eminently suitable.
01/17/2014 02:34:27 AM · #69
Please do not taint this excellent challenge by taking this jury stuff any further. I have officially withdrawn, and that's the end of it. I think the jury is better balanced as a result. No more posts on that, please. Let's relish the excellent essays instead. Thank you.

From the word go, this was to be the way it would work: -quoted from the first thread-

"posthumous will make the final decision, but he will consult a panel of judges"

So really, there is only one judge, with a bonus of possibly having more comments displayed, as created by the people postie lent his ear to. No more no less. All up-front.

So let's all say we're sorry, and play together.

Have you spent time with the entries? Do yourself the favour, you'll be amazed at how much more you will know of the individual behind the images.

I want to banter and hackle about photography, hug them, and enjoy sunsets with them.

When is DPC getting a HUG-button?

Well there you go! Thanks

A real warm to all 36 of you.

Hugs are good. We need to keep this idea going. I'm really looking forward to doing another essay next month... and the month after that, juried or not,... in fact, may we set dates so we have time to plan?
