I'm sure it's something he will regret looking back on it.

Oh who am I kidding he is a Seahawk, that is the highest level of "Class" that they reach.

I don't have a team I root for in the NFL. But I do have teams I root against because of their level of Douchebaggery. Seattle and Pete Carrol are at the top of that list.

These guys are paid millions to hit each other with all their might. They personally talk smack to each other all season long. They -- especially the cornerbacks (like closers in baseball) -- are expected to act like they are untouchable and almost inhuman (Revis Island? Neon Deion?), and yet we're surprised when they get on mic immediately after the game, still fired up from the play that sends them to the super bowl, and they don't speak as you'd hope they would.

The fan base of this sport expects Sherman and others to get in repeated car crashes every Sunday, without the car, and then be model citizens afterward. It doesn't work that way.

As a photojournalist(specifically sports photography) I've been "in the heat of the battle" and interviewed High schooler's after they have performed on a stage that will be the biggest of their life. I've done the same with Juco, Div 1, and Professional sports as well. I'm well aware of what the "fan base" should expect from "Professional" athletes. And what you saw in that interview was pure Douchebaggery, that 5 minutes of fame will last longer than his career. And while he may not be smart enough to wish it had never happened. I'm sure many of his "professional" teammates already do.

He is already an internet sensation

I appreciate your view and experience, Matt. I believe you've seen more composure, but I do think that composure and eloquence is not what we should expect from people that run into each other for a living, for a lot of money, for years. I think the media wants this to be something, facebook and twitter posters want this to be something, but it isn't anything.

To all you Richard Sherman, Pete Carroll, and Seahawks detractors out there; tough. The Seahawks are the best NFC team, period. They have the best defense in all of football. Pete Carroll is known as a player's coach and treats his players with respect. He doesn't continually whine like that jackass Jim Harbaugh. And Richard Sherman is the best cornerback in football. Sherman got caught up in the heat of the moment after a gut wrenching and hard fought game that the best team clearly won. The Super Bowl will be epic. It seems like all the sports writers are in love with the Peyton Manning story and his comeback from injury. No one mentions that the Broncos were crushed in the pre-season by the Seahawks 40 to 10. Manning just doesn't face the level of defense found in the NFC week after week. May the best team win.
And now to get Richard Sherman's take on his outburst.//q.usatoday.com/2014/01/20/richard-sherman-seattle-seahawks-super-bowl-michael-crabtree/

There is a big difference between a meaningless pre-season game and the all important SuperBowl. C'mon man!

The Denver Broncos are your Super Bowl XLVIII favorites … at least for now.

Seriously? Pre-season?

The Detroit Lions once went 4-0 in the pre-season. Then they went 0-16 in the regular season.

Don't forget that his return to the head coaching ranks (after being fired by the Jets) was much-aided by his two-year stint as Defensive Coordinator for the 49ers ... people always think of Bill Walsh's offense as fancy-pants passing, when the real strategy was to get ahead quickly, and win with running (the clock) and defense, much like Seattle today.

I don't care how good you are or how excited you are, I don't think there's any excuse for being a poor winner ... I haven't decided who (if anyone) to root for to win in two weeks, but I kinda hope Manning throws five TD passes right over Sherman ...

I can see all sides of the Sherman thing. I'm not sure the right thing to do was to call Crabtree mediocre. He should learn to call his opponents great, because then he's shutting down GREAT receivers, not mediocre ones.

Still, anybody who watches sports is sick and tired of the cliche response to the tired question. It's so boring. Then, when someone actually comes out and tells us how he REALLY feels we are all, "Gasp! I can't believe he said that!"

I'm ok with everything except calling out Crabtree (and taunting him at the end). If Sherman wants to declare he's the greatest cornerback in the game, he's earned the right to make that claim.

Gonna be an awesome Super Bowl.

Oh, what the heck, make it six.
I'll add that "plus one symbol" to everything Paul said.

May the best team win...without histrionics.

Bringing up pre-season is just silly. For a minute here can we forget about Sherman and think about the game.
The Seahawks have a 23-17 lead late in the 4th quarter and the go for it on 4th and 1 with a 6 point lead. IF they kick the field goal the go up by 9 and the 49'ers need 2 scores to win. IF the Lynch fumble on 4th down was scooped up and run back for a TD Peter Carroll would be considered the biggest JACKASS in the NFL.

If Seattle want's to win the super bowl they need to keep the mistakes to a minimum.

Looking at the preseason game isn't completely irrelevant. It's probably as helpful as another common armchair quarterback comparison we love to do. If Teams X and Y played a common opponent Z, what happened?

Anyway, the first quarter of the preseason game, when the "starters" were playing did show Manning had some success, but was also frustrated against the Seattle defense.

While it is fascinating to contemplate the Denver offense/Seattle defense matchup, I'm really wondering if the game won't be won or lost on the other side of Seattle offense/Denver defense. Denver's defense is ranked 15th according to Football Outsiders in DVOA and Seattle's offense is ranked 7th. Denver has been decent at stopping the run, but is quite poor at stopping the pass. Seattle is, of course, one of the best at running and is only moderate at passing. However, what does Percy Harvin bring to the game? This is so interesting. What other Super Bowl has the introduction of a player who has essentially not contributed to the season yet has the skill to be the game MVP?

My suspicion hope is that Seattle's defense slows the Denver offense just enough that Russell Wilson and company will be able to control the tempo and score enough. A Seattle win scoreline will be something like 24-21. 21 points is 50% more points than Seattle normally gives up, and I think Seattle can score 24 against Denver's defense.

So far, post-concussion syndrome ...

Broncos and Seahawks each are tied with 5. Seem evenly matched to me. Ought to be a hell (can I say hell here?) of a game!

Seahawks sometimes play sloppy. And yes, they sometimes play lucky. And it seems they sometimes just barely snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. It isn't always pretty but week after week, they've found a way to get it done.

Denver would be making a serious mistake to underestimate them.

I don't think the Broncos will overlook their opponent in the SB.

The Seahawks have given up 32 points in the postseason, the Broncos have given up 33. The Seahawks defense is not the only defense playing in this game. BTW, the Broncos have punted one time this postseason.

I like our (the Broncos) chances. It's going to be one helluva game either way.

Football Outsiders says it's much more what we think (ie. Denver offense vs. Seattle defense) Here are their DVOA numbers. All you need to know about the stat is for offense a high number is good and for defense a high negative number is good. Special teams is like offense; positive is good, negative is bad

DEN (weighted DVOA through Week 20)
Offense: 29.6%
Defense: -4.2%
Special teams: -5.6%

SEA (weighted DVOA through Week 20)
Offense: 6.6%
Defense: -29.3%
Special teams: 10.5%

It's possible the real difference will come down to special teams where Seattle is very good (4th in the league) and Denver is very bad (26th in the league).

Football outsiders also gives these numbers for their take on the winner as Seattle 58% and Denver 42%. Pretty close, really.

When Seatlle had their "big win" last year they laid an egg the following week against Atlanta. Will Sherman's ego survive two weeks? I think not. Look for Manning to have a huge game and if the refs show up this time it could be a blow out. Seattle better hope for snow.
