For a good cause to help stop the bleeding in one of the best, if not "the" best, websites around, DPChallenge.com, some of us doing extra work such as this SC with a free membership giveaway, this website to conduct live interviews and make things more interesting and with this Free DPChallenge HATS giveaway marathon... but there is one more thing: "DPChat.net Contests"
.
I invite you to register and enter to win actual gifts like Free DPChallenge memberships, Free DPChat.net Mugs, Free DPChat.net hats and actual framed certifications with winner's name and winning photos printed on, at DPChat.net Contests website!
.
Read about this "Super Side Challenge" website and see yourself. Only the best of the best can win contests there, dual level voting and only single editing rule applied for all contests with a little twist. It will be tough to win, but fun to enter. The awards come through sponsors, no fees to become a member and there won't be any fees in the future.

First contest subject is "HATS". Checkout the rules for this contest at DPChat.net Contests website. You have one month to enter. No starting time restriction for your photos, all you have to have is the original file, straight out of your camera if asked. Why no time restriction? 1-If you have any photos that you took, but somehow missed deadline, or just sitting there you wish you could enter to a contest or something... here is a good chance to do that! 2-DPChat.net Contests website will carry only the winners in its showcase, others will be deleted. So, winners must be the best of the best.
.
Join when you get a chance, tell your friends and families about it, and enter your photo. The website still under construction but registration and upload is available right now, no reason to wait until fully running, which will be very soon. You have a full month before the public voting starts!

Only advance editing rules required fro all contests with a little twist on each.
No starting time restriction applied. Any photo that belongs to you is ok, it doesn't mater when it was taken. You must retain the original file when asked though. You have one month to enter to very first contest "HATS", in BW or Sepia, no other colors, an optional selected layer provided for you on the upload page. No frames allowed for any contests now or later. Max image size 900pix, and 400K.

There will be a public voting to come up with top 10 photos. Those 10 photos will be judged and voted by a selective jury of 5 to find out first 3 and 2 HMs which will be awarded with 2 free DPChallenge memberships, and 2 DPChat.net goodies along with actual framed certifications to all top 5 photographers.

Registration is free and always will be free.

Not that I plan to do so (at least right now), but can you clarify whether photos previously-submitted to challenges here at DPC are still eligible?

Sad thing is, there were no "hat" challenge in DPC so far... and yes, you can enter any photo from anytime, if you won at other places or not. As long as you have the original.

PS: If you haven't read the rules, DPChat.net Contests does not allow any kind of bordering!

No, but I have several entries which feature hats -- none of which scored so high that I'm that tempted to submit one unless in desperation mode ...

You should. First contest will have much less entries than second one will have... and if anyone has a chance, this might be the best time to try!

I still am coding the website, and it was time to write the section that shows a notification to a contest winner, who tries to enter another contest... and here it is.

Note that your image specifications of 700 pixels minimum and 900 pixels maximum will require cropping a minimum of 33 pixels from the long side of a standard 4:3 image -- bad news for those of us who want to use the whole frame ... :-(

I suggest changing it to 600 minimum to allow the use of the full frame of a 3:2 image (like a 35mm film frame) which is also a common digital format ...

Actually, 700 min both sides... Say, 900 x 600 is OK, 699 x 699 or smaller is not.

A 700 minimum means a 700 minimum ... your example doesn't make sense with that description, if one side can be less than 700 under some circumstances.

Ok, I agree with you, it might be complicated.

Here is what's the best way to explain it.

A photo, at least one side Max at 900 or Min at 700. So, 900X600 ok, 700X500 is ok but 699X699 or 699X500 is not. and might add "Not lower than 300 for one side" meaning, 900X300 is ok, but 900X299 is not

make sense?

The way I understand this is the longest side of your photo must be between 700 & 900 pixels , and the shortest side must be no smaller than 300. Is this correct?

Are you just wanting the top photographers of DPC to enter or are you hoping for broad participation? It might just be me, but this seems aimed at ribbon winners.

I gave hats in the past to those we (as in most active members) think deserves one as well.

Such as late Sherryl (RIP)

...and bribing purposes to Langdon

etc...

However, by giving free hats away, I encourage people to...

1-become a member (for some selected challenges such as February Free study)
2-just join to DPC and try to win (as the second hat offer in February open place)

I will be also giving hats to those who didn't win, never had a ribbon but passed other none-ribbon registered members regardless their place, which also was done in the past.

So, most giveaways done with my decision, but there will be some that I ask other members (active members the most) help me out who should get one.

I am in search of jury members for upcoming contests including the "HATS" subject open right now. I do have one person from Photo Camel website, need another 4 people for the job.

Jury voting takes 1 month, no rush.

Preferred requirements for the jury member:

- A pro photographer who is currently making money out of photography, full time or part time.
- A photographer who was a jury member in the past for another official photo contest(s)
- Anyone from DPChallange website or outside DPChallenge website is ok.

Please PM me if you have anyone in your mind!

If you have registered to DPChat.net contest webpage, remember, there is no time restriction or any other restrictions for your entry other than you have to have the original image file, straight out of the camera. By uploading your photos earlier, you'd help me to find any bugs that needs to be fixed, if there is any. Submissions ends January 31st and public voting starts February 1st.
If you haven't registered yet, here is the linky
